New GWR rail lounges have opened in Truro and Penzance.

We had a bit of a spurt a couple of years ago reviewing rail lounges across the UK.  My favourite is the GWR First Class lounge at Paddington reviewed here.  Here are reviews of Virgin Trains Manchester lounge, Virgin Trains Liverpool lounge and Virgin Trains London Easton lounge.  The old Virgin East Coast lounge at Kings Cross – which is unchanged under LNER – is reviewed here.

New GWR lounges at Truro and Penzance

seat61.com reports via Twitter that GWR has opened two new lounges in Penzance and Truro.  These are only for sleeper train passengers and have a lounge with showers & complimentary tea, coffee, juice and snacks.  This is all part of the new look Night Riviera Sleeper service.

There are some photos from seat61 of the Penzance lounge here.

I shall be annoyed if the answer is yes.
On the subject of IHG card, I have cancelled my white card, which was on Curve, and got a black IHG card. When I try to add the new card to Curve, the small transaction with the code does not appear on my online Creation account in time to enter into the Curve app.
Has anyone had this problem and found a solution please?

If you call up the agent can see the full code as a pending transaction and read it back to you. I have found if you call up between 9-5 weekdays with creation then you substantially increase your chances of speaking to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Thanks, I will give it a try.

Outside of 9-5 they contract out their phone support line to some other company who can only do basic things such as block a lost or stolen card. They can’t, for example, reactivate a card that has been stopped for suspected fraud etc. Really helpful when you are abroad and have to ring up between 9 and 5 UK time…

Don’t think so but why not apply via Rob’s link to help pay for the site.

    • Benylin says:

I’m happy to do so but didn’t appear like it was a referral link when going via HFP.

you can email rob at headforpoints dot com for any referral if you are in any doubt.

There has been some changes to the King’s Cross lounge. You no longer have Branson staring at you as you walk along the corridor towards the exit! At the beginning of 2017 Virgin Trains East Coast removed the china cups and proper glasses and replaced them with disposable cups. These reverted back to proper cups and glasses when LNER took over.

Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase. Until recently the credit card machines was out of order almost all of the time, they now have a more reliable machine.

The furnishings in the lounge are unchanged from the Virgin days, but that’s to be expected as it was only refurbished in 2016. One change that’s happened recently is the large fridge which was originally used for storing alcohol available for purchase is now used for the complimentary water and Coke meaning it’s highly unlikely to run out. The smaller fridge is now used for alcohol which actually seems to have increased sales as more people notice it.

Some small improvements then to the KX lounge. It is a disappointing dump of a place in my opinion.

      • Rob says:

Agreed, I remained unexcited when back there during the Summer. Of course, St Pancras hasn’t got a lounge at all so I shoudn’t really complain.

OT: New Selfridges offer on Amex. Spend 100 and get 30

  • RakishDriver says:

Nope. Rob had confirmed in past email correspondence.
Not aware of any change in the past year.

  • Rob says:

    No, annoyingly not

  • Russ says:

I think amex are having a math moment…

‘Earn 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend £2,000 or more on purchases in your first three months of Cardmembership.

So far you have spent £1,999, so spend £0 or more before 03rd Oct 2018 to receive the points.’

Shame it looks like it now has an expiry date.

I’ve been using my officially expired silver status card for the last 18 months without a problem getting through fast track security at various locations. In fact it even works at check-in as well!
