Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get a 15% discount on hotel and car hire bookings made with Avios – worth it?

British Airways Executive Club has emailed some, not all, members with a special deal.  Until 30th September, you can book a hotel or car with your Avios and save 15% on the usual price.

Stays must be completed by 31st December.

Because it is a targeted offer, you won’t see anything online to prove that it is actually working.  Trust me, it is if you got the email.  If the results of your search look poor, it is because this deal IS poor.

Discount on hotels booked with Avios

Under this promotion, you will be getting 0.66p per Avios redeemed.  This is poor in my book, although better than the standard rate which works out at around 0.57p per Avios.  Above is an example.

As the cost is 29,850 Avios or 1,000 Avios + £190, you are saving £190 by using a net 28,850 Avios.  This is (19000/28850) 0.66p per Avios.

Even worse,  the stays will be non-qualifying so you won’t receive any hotel loyalty points or status benefits either.

Straight to the comments section on that. I am perpetually astounded by people who want to travel but dismiss saving points as a means to the desired end. Only last weekend my brother and sister in law were bemoaning their Hawaii trip had gone belly up because they couldn’t get the money together. Yet they did that silly grin when I was explaining how we mange Dubai in F on BA, coming back on Emirates in business and staying at a 5* hotel with butler and free transfers. Unbelievable.

      • Shoestring says:

Even more fun when your wife does that, especially when she gets another card

      • Anna says:

I don’t know, it’s quite reassuring that so many people don’t want to compete with us for reward flights. I can’t understand how so many people complain about lack of redemption flights; where are they actually looking? My redemption opportunities are only limited by the amount of annual leave I have!

        • Polly says:

Agree Anna. Am having to repeat stuff a lot so literally cant help people anymore. Ask same questions..i write it out again and again..send links..then hear they never applied..so l give uo now. As you say leaves more seats for us. It does take focus as we all know..but how many times have we to explain…and l really want them to benefit.

My bro kept on getting his wallet out every year & showing me the free Airport Angels cards that came with his Barclays account (a few years ago). Free lounge x6 at the time.

          But he never used them.

Out of curiosity – what’s the hotel name? 🙂

  • Stevie G says:

Sorry if mentioned. Avios app says it will close on the 19th Sept.
