Good British Airways Amex ‘bonus Avios’ promotion – requires registration

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

If you have a British Airways American Express card, an interesting new promotion should be waiting for you.  The majority of cardholders seem to have it.

Tthat said, looking at the comments below there are a large number who do not, so don’t take it personally if it isn’t there! You might another interesting offer worth registering for, so it won’t be a total waste of two minutes of your life to check.

You need to go to the American Express website here, log in, go to your BA Amex statement page and scroll down to ‘Offers’.

British Airways American Express special offer

You will see a variant of this:

There appear to be three variants and you don’t get to choose which one you get:

Spend £3000 and get 3000 Avios, up to three times

Spend £1500 and get 1500 Avios, up to three times

Spend £750 and get 750 Avios, up to three times

These are the partners who count – note the currency restrictions:

British Airways – £ only

Avis – £ only

BA Holidays – £ only

Heathrow Express – £ only

All (?) Marriott and Starwood hotel brands (check the full list online) – all currencies

You have from the date you register until 31st December to hit the spending target.

The implication – despite the wording saying “a transaction [singular] of £750+” – is that it is based on combined spend, so you can mix and match partners to hit the target.

Be very wary with the Marriott offer.  There is a 3% foreign exchange fee on your British Airways American Express card.  It MIGHT make sense to use your BA Amex when you factor in the value of the base Avios and the bonus, but it also might not.  Anyone with a different credit card with 0% FX fees may want to use that instead and forget about the bonus.

(We will be spending around €800 at a Marriott next month, for example.  With her 2-4-1 voucher already triggered for the year, it will be pointless to use my wife’s BAPP card and pay €24 in fees to trigger 750 bonus Avios and around 1100 base Avios when I have a 0% FX credit card to use instead.)

My view is that this is NOT a bonus so generous that you should chase it.  However, 31st December is a long way away.  REGISTER NOW and then, if your combined spend across these partners hits the £750 / £1500 / £3000 target, you’re sorted.

You need to register by logging in to the Amex website here or via the Amex app.

Nothing on any of my collection if Amex

  • John Hanson says:

I’ve got the 1500 x 3 on my BA Amex card and that’s handy as I have to pay for a BA Holiday by mid December totalling £4,400 I assume you still get the Avios as per normal and to be sure I shall pay the Holiday in 3 instalments.

  • Lewis King says:

Nothing on either of our BAPP cards either!

  • Andy Jones says:

No offer on my BA cards

    • Jonathan says:

Also nothing. Interested to know what Rob is basing his “majority” claim on, have AmEx told you this as the (unscientific) sample here shows <25%. Any value in calling as I thought they now refused to add offers you aren't originally selected for?

      • Rob says:

Majority would be 51% – we have 100% in our house!

        • Jonathan says:

Not a criticism of you, just wondered if AmEx had told you it was available to majority or it was based on your personal experience of 2/2. Personally I’ve found the number of offers on my BAPP has plummeted since I got a Platinum. The flip side is the Platinum offers seem to be more Hotel/restaurant focused which is of less use for me than the more general travel/retail offers I used to get when only had BAPP.

Would love to know how they target these as based on comments there seems to be no pattern in terms of high/low spend, lots/few BA transactions etc.

          • Rob says:

I based it totally on the number of readers who mentioned it yesterday in the comments and my general experience of how widely spread these offers are. This is clearly a big one because there is a special website page set up for it.

  • BillyK says:

    Nothing for yet

  • Malibu Stacey says:

I don’t have it but won’t be calling Amex. This really isn’t a very good offer.

  • Tracy says:

Nothing on my ba amex, I am spending on this card at present to get my 241 and I have made payments to ba holidays and for ba flights over the past couple of months. I find that I am not selected for some of the amex promos if I have already spent money with the retailer recently, or maybe I’m just paranoid lol

  • John W says:

Not on my BAPP either ! . In fact there are only 5 offers there
