InterContinental New York Times Square adds a ‘resort fee’

  I recently did a US West Coast holiday and ditched the 3 nights planned for Vegas for San Diego. This was because the resort fees when browsing for hotels annoyed me so much. Maybe wishful thinking on my part but I think they need to be careful, I paid more to stay in SD overall than I would have for LV, but became so fixated and angry about resort fees I just didn’t care. There’s a huge psychological negative in compulsory added extras, and over time that cheating mentality creates very poor customer value perception. If it’s a resort, lots of pools, activities, I can just about tolerate them, although still think a price should be a price, but city hotels and non resorts adding these charges is straight forward gauging. How long before you get metered water and “did you want a bed in that room?”

    While I hate the resorts fees as much as you do, it would not stop me visiting Vegas is I had to or wanted to go, and I don’t thing they are suffering as a result of these fees either.

  I did an e-rewards survey the other day about why I would/wouldn’t visit the US and particularly NYC. I said that one of the biggest reasons I wouldn’t was “resort fees” in hotels.
  Unfortunately, too many people do pay them so they are likely here to stay.

  I can highly recommend the Indigo in Kensington, 40000 points a night, right next to Earls Court tube station which is 7 stops from Leicester Square. Excellent cooked to order breakfast.

    +1, I got a great suite there. The character of the building and the decor gave it a very homely feel.

  Man, those rooms look tiny! You can barely walk around the bed. And as for the clothes rail in lieu of wardrobe…

  The reviews, if they are to be believed, are mostly favourable – but I am not tempted.

  OT – I Have a Ambassador Complimentary Night certificate, which is expiring in Dec, can i sell it on ebay for someone else to use? Do they ask for it with the booking at check in as it has my name written down along with member number so not sure if someone else can benefit from it?

    Yes they ask for it at check-in, so you can’t sell it.

    December is ages away! Why not use it as it’s the premier benefit of ambassador and the key reason for paying for membership?!

  OT: Currently sat in the Plaza Premium Lounge in T5. It’s actually quite full! there are seats together but we had to look. Even so it’s much nicer than the Galleries lounges IMHO. I like the proper bar. and the staff seem happy enough – stunning views. I won’t miss Silver quite so much now.

    I had a good visit here a few weeks ago 🙂 Sunday morning – about 60% full but much quieter. I didn’t bother with the BA Lounge until we after we trundled to Terminal (concourse?) 5B
