ViaVan launches in London with £3 Zone 1 rides

ViaVan, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and US start-up Via, has launched in its ‘shared journey’ service in London.

From what I can gather, it is basically ‘UberPOOL with a minibus’.

A ViaVan will be heading in roughly one direction, say from Wimbledon to Central London, and will pick up people from ‘near’ their homes or wherever they are along the way.  Each passenger will be dropped off ‘near’ their final destination.

All rides will be shared.  The upside is very aggressive pricing – during the launch period, all rides inside Zone 1 will be priced at a flat £3.

I am pretty sure that this is not a service for me, but you may think differently.  There isn’t much of a website – see here – but full details are in the app.

Go – thank you very much. I have used your code and signed up an received £20 of credit and believe you will have too. The app has now generated my code – nicholas8w6. Which someone can use. If HFP readers keep signing up using a code posted here and then paste their own, we will all end up with £40 credit which goes a long way at £3 per ride.

TfL run a similar service, £1.50. They even have priority lanes on some roads. ????

Tried Via Van three times this week, as often get taxis about town when I need to be contactable.

For the price of a tube fare it’s great.

In my experience all were cars and not vans, 2 were BMWs and one Toyota.
Which 2 rides went direct (one being 9 other 3 miles)
One was very short(1.5 miles) being picked up in Knightsbridge and someone got in at the same location.

You both get £20 free credit if you refer someone, My Code is joe5y3, Download the app here: http://bit.ly/2JhMeoh

Re: viavan. I could be wrong but doesn’t this service already comprehensively exist? I think I’ve seen these big red things running up and down London’s roads picking you up from ‘near’ where you are, and dropping you off ‘near’ where you want to be, often by circuitous routes to pick other customers up?! And all for one low flat fare!
