  seems incredibly petty from Hilton/amex, any theories as to the real reason they said no to the kid? higher chance of them touching something they shouldn’t I suppose? seems weak sauce to me.

  OT – Hilton Honors. Can I pick the brains of readers who have more experience – as I understand I should have Silver membership as a HH visa card holder, but it’s not showing on my account (I’ve emailed them about this). Is this usual?

  Also, when I upgrade to Gold through the Amex Platinum, will that also show on my account or will I have to show proof of status at check in for the free breakfasts et.c? I’ve got 9 nights at Hiltons in August and want to make the most of them. Thanks in advance, this site is like having a personal travel mentor!

    For the gold upgrade you need to apply for this through the form on the AMEX website. Once done it can take a couple of weeks for the Gold status to be applied. However once your Hilton account is upgraded, then the hotel can see your status on their systems and you will often see your room upgraded one or two days before check-in. Its always a good idea to have the app on your phone working so in the unlikely event your HH number gets disconnected form your booking you can quickly prove your status. This happens to me all the time on Club Carlson, but hasn’t happened on Hilton to date.

    No it’s not usual. It should all show in the app/account as you will need to pick your preference (points/breakfast) called my way benefits

    Occasionally you will find that the hotel only has your status from at the time of booking, so you may need to show your card/the app, but this seems to be happening less frequently these days.

  Pay just £10 for a Railcard by getting a friend who has a rail season ticket and travel gold card to buy the ticket for you. This is a benefit season ticket/gold card owners.

    That’s a Network Railcard which has different rules to other railcards, notably that it can’t be used before 1000 on working days and there is a £13 minimum fare after 1000.

  When did you last visit the Marco Polo lounge at VCE? Do keep up. It has been completely refurbished and is lovely now. Food and drinks service much improved as is the decor.

  About time for Venice – up until now they’ve only had the landside Travelex business centre, which was truly awful!
