Hilton and American Express launch a new ‘£50 back on £250 spend’ hotel cashback deal

A new Hilton cashback offer has appeared on a lot of American Express accounts.  To see if you are targetted, visit the Amex website and take a look under the ‘Offers’ tab on the online statement page for each of your cards.

You will receive £50 cashback when you spend £250 or more at selected UK and European Hilton, Doubletree, Waldorf-Astoria, Curio and Conrad hotels before 11th June.  Hilton Paris Opera is pictured below.

Hilton £50 cashback offer

Not all hotels are participating.  Make sure that you check the list of hotels on the Amex website before booking – it is only UK and European hotels, and not all of them.  In theory you also need to book ‘pay at checkout’ rates to get this deal.  In reality, pre-paid rates will probably also trigger it.

In the past, these offers have been triggered by cumulative spend.  There is no mention of this – so you are not guaranteed to receive it if the £250 is not hit in one transaction – but it is likely to work.

Hilton has a week-long flash sale starting on Tuesday so you may want to save your bookings until then.  We will bring new more details next week.

  • Lee says:

Hilton prices always go up for the ‘sale’, so book now if you want a cancellable rate. You can always rebook if cheaper.

    • Nick Burch says:

Not always. I stay quite often at a Hilton Garden Inn that’s near our HQ. During sales they often push down the flexible rate, so they can get the sale rate (fixed % discount) even cheaper!

  • Andy says:

The T&Cs (at least on the offer I have got) specify that only checkout spend will count and that the stay needs to be be by 11 June 2018, They also explicitly say that online payments do not count towards the offer. All this indicates that prepaid rates will not trigger the cash-back

    • KevMc says:

It said that the last time they ran this promotion, but pre-paying triggered it fine for me (I had a stay in March and the offer ended on 31st January I think). If you pre-pay, the booking is sent to the property, who process the payment themselves, hence it goes through as though you have paid in check out.

  • a270 says:

Re Hilton, if I book two rooms at the same hotel, will they count as two stays? I want them interconnected though ideally or will that mess my number of stays as doing a Diamond challenge. If they put as one stay, can I ask count them as two, just trying to understand what the rule is.

    • Brian says:

Assuming the two rooms are booked for the same nights, it will only count as one stay.

    • Rob says:

Rule for Hilton is that AS LONG AS THE BILLS ARE MERGED you get points on two rooms BUT only one lot of stay credit. If the bills are not merged you get nothing on the 2nd room.

All chains are different (IHG even has different rules by continent) – SPG lets you book 3 rooms per night and night credit for all of them.

      • a270 says:

        Thanks all

      • Cate ⛱️ says:

If you book one room on your card and another on the supplementary card would you then pick up points and two stays? Granted they would be in two different accounts.

        • Rob says:

Hilton requires 2 rooms to be on one bill if you want points from both – but you could split the payment across 2 cards.

        • Cate ⛱️ says:

          Ah…thanks Rob.

  • a270 says:

Also, Rob do you know which region the week long Hilton sale be for?

  • Lewis King says:

OT. got the gold card, and signed up for a gold credit card. Right now it’s 5,000 MR points for a £500 spend but they’re not showing up in the rewards tab. Usually it’s one card in one currency but am I right in thinking that A) this is different and B) you can’t even have the credit card without the gold card? Thanks!

    • mark2 says:

      A) yes
      B) yes, it’s called the Companion Card.
The spending does not show towards the target, like when you upgrade to Platinum (after cancelling Gold Companion of course).

      • Lewis says:

Hi Mark, thank you for that. I didn’t want to panic – I’ve had it plenty of times when rewards targets don’t turn up! Have a lovely rest of your weekend.

    • Jonnyenglish says:

Don’t count on the 5000 bonus points being added to your MR balance as soon as you hit the £500 target. I hit the £500 target within a few days of receiving the Gold credit card and didn’t receive the MR points. I have spoken to three different Amex customer service advisors about this and the first two stated it would take 7-10 working days for the 5000 MR points to be added to my MR balance. When they didn’t show up after that I contacted Amex again and was told they would be added THREE MONTHS after successfully applying for the companion card!

  • Michael says:

OT: Just been speaking to BA as I wanted to book flights with Avios to Hawaii on Alaska Airmiles. I always thought as long as there shows availability via Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan programme I could book those flights with Avios, but that is not the case I was told and sadly there was no availability to use my Avios, as BA had no Avios rewards flights on Alaska for the dates I need, which is in April already.

    – Anyone here who has any other suggestions? The agent said there is no availability on American Airlines either for dates I need.

    – I could potentially get Airmiles in other frequent flyer program’s via a Marriott travel package, if there are other airlines where I could use them possibly without paying much taxes etc. Looking for direct flight primarily.

    • Louise says:

I think it has to be lowest points bucket?

Have you looked at Alaska miles from Marriott package? Although maybe not enough for redemption?

      Delta also fly to Hawai

    • mark2 says:

Avios availability tends to be restricted. On the short flight that I wanted to book they only had seats on Alaska metal, not the subcontracted Q400s (most of the flights).
It sounds as if you have Marriott/SPG points so worth checking SPGflights.com which has complete availability on many airlines e.g. seems to be Seattle to Honolulu return for 55,000 SPG points

  • Simon says:

Have a week long Hilton stay in AUH coming up. I have registered this offer in the hope that bar/restaurant spend alone will trigger the offer – our room is already paid.
