British Airways is rolling out changes to the minimum age for travel for a child flying alone.

From bookings made after 1st May, a child must be 14 before it will be allowed to fly unaccompanied.  This compares to the current age of 12.

In addition, any child aged under 16 MUST bring a completed parent / guardian consent form with them to the airport.  This rule applies to new bookings made after 1st May.

Unaccompanied children will be booked on adult tickets and must travel without a chaperone throughout the entire journey.  The ‘Skyflyer’ service which allocated chaperones to unaccompanied minors was scrapped by British Airways in 2016.

Full details of the changes are on this page of ba.com.

Off Topic, but please bear with me. If you get hotel status with the Amex Platinum, say SPG Gold. This would normally take you 10 stays or 25 nights. To then reach platinum status, do you only need the incremental 15 stays/25 nights, or the full 25 stays/50 nights this would otherwise require?

    • Scallder says:

Full 25/50 I’m afraid. You get gold but you’re not gifted the stays/nights you need to get gold

    • Lee says:

link to Marriott gold then platinum challenge only require 9 stays in 3 months

  • JamesB says:

Mine was 8% for Turkey, ME and Africa only. Got the 10% Morrisons max £10, and also 10% Waitrose, max £30.

    • Jon says:

Hilton must be going on a blitz then- I have a Santander offer for 8% off for Turkey, Africa, and ME stays too!

  • mark2 says:

Hilton also on Lloyds at 5/8 but not my Halifax

  • Zoe says:

OT for those who read blog by Dave Stringer the HFP reader who was using his Avios for travels following a lung cancer diagnosis, he now has a link on the blog for the Roy Castle Lung cancer charity. A reminder of how insignificant most of our problems are.

  • Alan says:

Is this for Halifax account holders or on their credit card accounts?

    Thanks

    • Andrew says:

It’s valid for Debit & Credit card use. Just log-in either via desktop site or app and check your offers.

If you have both BoS and Halifax accounts it’s worthwhile logging in under both sites (should be the same log-in and password) as the offers can differ between the brands.

  • Scott says:

Only 5% @ Morrisons on mine. 20% at Funky Pigeon, though! 🙂

  • @mkcol says:

OT: I’ve got it in my head that if you’re BAEC gold then you can also have Hilton Honors gold but can’t find anything to support that – have I imagined this?
Or have I got myself mixed up with being a BA gold guest list getting you Honors diamond?!

  • KevMc says:

    O/T data point:

I had Hilton Gold (via AMEX Plat), applied for status match using my IHG Platinum, and they have matched me to Diamond.

Question though, do I need 8 stays or 8 nights to retain it?
