If you’ve got a bit of spare time over the next few weeks, you could take advantage of a new Virgin Atlantic promotion for 40% off redemption flights from London to Miami.

Full details are on the Virgin Atlantic website here.

Note that the discount only applies to Miami and not any other Florida destinations.

Flights in all classes are reduced by 40%:

Economy – 7500 miles each way

Premium Economy – 15000 miles each way

Upper Class – 28500 miles each way

Full taxes and charges will apply.

The travel window is very short – you must fly between 14th February and 14th March.

If you return after 14th March, you will still get the discount on the outbound flight but the return will be charged at full price.

To maximise your miles when paying the taxes, your best bet is one of the two Virgin Atlantic Reward credit cards.  These earn double miles (3 per £1 on the paid card or 1.5 per £1 on the free card) when you book at virginatlantic.com or via Virgin Holidays.  Another option is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold which offers double points – 2 per £1 – when you book flight tickets directly with an airline.

You can find out more on the Virgin Atlantic site here.

It seems the taxes, fees and charges increase by over £50pp during this promotion

    • Moo says:

Yes, Virgin have increased the taxes and fees by £50 for Economy redemptions during the “promotion” period……feels like a DFS “sale”.

The Premium cabins have not had their fees increased which is strange – why couldn’t Virgin have kept all the fees the same or excluded Economy from the promotion rather sneakily “adjust” fees upwards and make it out like it’s a proper sale? Maybe they think most people won’t notice. I’ve seen a few instances of Virgin sneaking things under the radar lately and have called them out on it. Maybe it’s the Delta-effect (or just plain sloppy marketing).

Despite all that, there’s still some good miles savings to be had in the premium cabins….so one thumb-up rather than two!

  • George says:

Is anyone else finding that seats in this period are not discounted by 40%? Eg weds 21/2 in Upper is 47,500 one way?

    • Mikee says:

21st Feb is showing as available in UC for 28,5000 miles + £364.

The promotion doesn’t work in the opposite direction ie. MIA-LHR (or MIA-LHR-MIA). Has to be a 1-way or return flight originating in UK.

  • TripRep says:

For those not fussed about a busy Miami, it’d be a great excuse for a week in the keys, sure they would welcome visitors $$$ after September’s storms…
