Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope you enjoy a well deserved break, wherever in the world you are.

Do please post below if your travels have taken you anywhere exciting this Christmas.  I am in London with the in-laws.  Anika is in Hamburg with her family.

Head for Points is taking a two day break. We will be back on Wednesday 27th with a review of my travel highlights and lowlights of 2017.

If you want something to read in the meantime, take a look under the ‘Favourite Articles‘ tab where you will find my pick of the most relevant pieces published in 2017, including our (in need of updating) ‘Avios Redemption University‘ series and all of our credit card reviews.

If you collect Avios via Tesco Clubcard, you may also want to take a look at the recent articles over at our sister site Shopper Points.

Thank you for your support over the past year.

    Happy Christmas all.

In HK now on the final leg of a little trip taking in LGW-GVA-CKG-KUL-CXR-HKG-LHR on a mix of redemption and cash to finish off Accelerate and get the Marriott Free Night.

A couple of stand-out redemptions being HKG-LHR in Virgin PE for 22.5k miles and £30. But the best was being upgraded from a standard room on points at the IC HK to a full Harbour View Room. A small Christmas miracle even as a Plat Ambassador!

Hope you are all having / will have a great day.

Phu Quoc last week, then the Mekong Delta (our second visit to the Island Lodge near My Tho, which I’d thoroughly recommend), and currently in Can Tho hoping to escape back home to Hanoi before Tembin hits. All rather boringly cash fares in Y on Vietnam Airlines.

    • Polly says:

      Hi EdC
We were looking at Pub Quoc as a last minute alternative to Bali should it continue to erupt further…nice thing about F241 to KUL we can use it to jump off any direction.
‘re Vietnam..we used their Vietnam airlines up and down there when we visited last year…v good airline actually.

We spent the end of our honeymoon on Phu Quoc. Nice island. Might go back next year

      • EdC says:

Phu Quoc has a bit of a bad rep amongst expats in Hanoi as being a bit overtouristy, overdeveloped, etc. but it was actually pretty nice, and if we weren’t leaving in February we’d probably go again. If you’re after an alternative from the usual resorts then Peppercorn Beach was quiet and with great food, if not quite as swish.

Happy Christmas Rob, Anika and hfp commenters. Thanks to following your advice this year I’ve just returned from a fantastic trip to Japan with my wife, in BA F, after staying in some great hotels. The jetlag, though… ????

Season’s Greetings Rob, Anika and to all hfp readers around the world. Spending Christmas at home with all of the family in Derbyshire.

  • SydneySwan says:

Slumming it at home in Sydney. Poor weather this year – 23C and overcast. However far more pleasant than the 40C+ day yesterday.

Thanks Rob and Anika for a great read throughout the year.

Happy Christmas from Calgary! All using points to get the family out in CW! Of course none of it possible without HfP!
