  OT- I have been able to obtain mine and my husband’s CW flights to Jamaica for Oct using 2-4-1, however due to the limitation of 2 Avios seats per flight, we still are needing to buy flights for our 11 yr old. Are there any upcoming BA CW promos I should wait for? I subscribe to the BA redemption finder which is fantastic, however no additional seats have opened up.

    If you are gold and Avios rich, you could force a redemption for double Avios. Then keep watching to see if a reward flight appears and book the redemption and cancel the double Avios booking.

    You won’t get a good sale deal this far away. See what comes up. You can put the kid in WTP if necessary anyway 🙂

      Did the withdrawal of Unaccompanied Minors service by BA not affect this?
      The KLM guidance on their (still existing) Unaccompanied Minor Service says:
      “Reserving the service is mandatory for children aged 5 up to and including 14 who are travelling alone or who are travelling in a different travel class than their accompanying adult.”

    If you are travelling over half term might be best to get an Avios Seat now in WTP just in case nothing else becomes available. You are just potentially losing £35 if you cancel or change it

    Why not look up good child minders near where you live and see if they do week long blocks? Always a fall back plan :-p

    Send the kid to live and work with Rob for a while, by the time you come back you will no longer need to waste time reading HFP every day for your points and miles tips … win, win, win.

    PS why not use the current sale to book a WTP seat anyway for cash if can. Then if possible for you, pay the upgrade fee in Avios if a further J set becomes available?

      Oops scrub that. Remembered the current sale is not for WTP. Would only work if no WTP available on the plane, then upgrade with Avios or cash from Y would be possible.

    We always use the 2 4 1 for one adult and our son as the difference in cost is minimal and it means that the child is always with a parent (and was guaranteed to be seated with parent up to the age of 12), and the other adult can then be flexible. This year we had to buy an extra cash ticket to GCM, but next year we’re going via Washington DC and there was plenty of CW availability for 3 of us. (If you really want CW redemption seats and there are more than 2 if you I would always recommend flying to the Caribbean via the states if you have time for a stopover.)

      Also, when I booked my cash ticket to GCM, BA absolutely refused to link our bookings (presumably hoping that we would pay £80 each to guarantee being seated together – we didn’t and we were, however). So if we’d booked our son on a separate ticket, I assume he would have been classed as an unaccompanied minor, however that works these days.

        You can’t book a solo ticket for an under-12, BUT critically if you’re on the same flight as them (in any cabin) then they don’t have to be classed as a UM. You need to book by phone but don’t worry, this happens every day. I think you lot are being generous suggesting WTP, I think he should be in WT!!
        That’s BA anyway, can’t speak for KLM, other airlines might have different rules.

      Hi Nick, can you book a cash ticket for a child if the parents are on redemption bookings? Would they put it on one booking number?
