Hilton and IHG sales now on

Both IHG (Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza etc) and Hilton (Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria, Hampton etc) have sales running at the moment.

IHG

The IHG ‘World Sale’ is being run as four separate sales, just to confuse everyone.

You must be a member of IHG Rewards Club to book, but that is free to join if you are not already a member.

This is the European booking page, which offers discounts of 15% to 30%.

You need to book by 29th November for stays before 31st March.

From that page you can toggle to the other sales:

Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East – 15% to 30% off for stays until 15th April
China – up to 20% off for stays until 31st March
Americas – 15% to 30% off for stays until 31st March

PS. IHG has also launched another ‘buy points’ bonus, running until 8th December. You will receive a 100% bonus when you buy over 20,000 IHG Rewards Club points and a smaller 40% bonus on purchases of 5,000 to 19,000 points. Full details are on this page (log-in required).

Hilton

We previewed the European Hilton sale last week and it has now opened up to cover Asia and the Middle East too.

The IHG sale is valid for any day of the week, albeit only until the Spring. Hilton has taken a different tack. Its sale is valid for ALL of 2018 (and the rest of 2017) but only for weekend stays.

The sale covers Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Asia and the Americas are not included.

Here are the headline details:

Valid for participating hotels in the UK, Middle East, Africa and Europe

Discounts are up to 25% off ‘Best Available Rate’ and ‘Best Available Rate With Breakfast’ for Hilton Honors members, and up to 20% off for non-members

Bookings are non-changeable and non-refundable (so, let’s be honest, it isn’t a full 25% discount as a non-refundable rate is usually 10% cheaper anyway)

Bookings valid for WEEKEND STAYS at any point between now and the end of 2018

Bookings must be made by 31st January 2018

Given that you can book for the whole of next year, you may be able to lock in a deal for any weddings or other events which you know are coming up.

PS. American Express still has a Hilton cashback deal, offering £50 back when you spend £250 at selected UK and European hotels. Look in the ‘Offers’ section of your online Amex statement first to see if you have it and can opt in. It is, in theory, only valid on ‘pay on departure’ rates though.

  Yep just gave them a bit of banter! They said they’d honour it but couldn’t yet sort as transaction was still pending so you recontact a couple of days later. Did so and they sorted – credit now correctly showing on the card that had the offer on it.

Slightly OT, but hotel loyalty related, and sorry if it’s a stupid question…
Anyway, I have Marriott Gold Elite status just this year via Amex Plat, but have acquired enough MR points to transfer into Marriott points for a 4 night standard room reward stay in Abu Dhabi. Can somebody better versed on the Marriott program than I am tell me – Do all of my Gold loyalty perks (room upgrade, lounge access, free wifi etc) still apply if it’s a reward booking and not a “cash” one? I don’t want to make the booking if I am going to be stuck in the standard reward room with none of the loyalty trimmings!
Anyway, hope someone can help, and as I say, sorry if its a daft question.

  Also worth remembering Marriott do 5-for-4 on reward night stays so you’ll get a 5th night free.
  
  If you’re there for 5 nights, might be worth pushing out to a “Marriott Flight and Hotel Package” – excellent value per point.

    OT. Rob, are you aware it appears a new Spire Elite perk at Crowne Plaza is the offer of a welcome drink, points or Lounge access? I had it in Harrogate all year but was offered it at Liverpool John Lennon and asked about it, I was told it was introduced this year.

      @ n – Unfortunately it has to be a 4 night trip as our end to end travel is already booked 🙁 Am completely new to Marriott, we had initially planned to stay at Radisson Blu actually (Club Carlson), and points were already in place there for a 4 night Business Room redemption (lounge access, breakfast etc), but unfortunately when I went to book yesterday the ‘Business’ redemption had dropped off the list! It was only then that I looked at Marriott, but with the gift of hindsight I would have definitely have went for that in the first place and the 5 nights for 4.
      Never heard of a “Marriott Flight and Hotel Package” btw, will definitely have to check that out!

  To be honest “mark2” the room upgrade isn’t really a worry, the reward room is a “superior” and over 45m² so will be plenty big enough for me, was more concerned with the wifi and Lounge access.

With the MRP you have to keep in the back of your mind that SPG points can take longer to accumulate. I missed a reward seat because I’d put our MR towards a MRP package and didn’t have enough to trigger the voucher until after one of the award seats had gone. What’s really irritating is the airline is a 1.1 amex transfer partner and I’d probably bagged those seats if I’d transferred directly to the airline.
