Amex launching a Platinum Card pop-up lounge with free drinks in London

American Express does, indeed, work in mysterious ways.

The company has decided to launch a pop-up ‘Centurion Lounge’ in London for six days in the run up to Christmas.  Free alcohol is the main attraction, to be honest, as you will see below.

American Express is taking over private members’ club, The Hospital Club, near Covent Garden.   The lounge will be open from Friday 24th November to Sunday 26th November and from Friday 1st December to Sunday 3rd December, from 11am to 8pm.

You will apparently get access with a Platinum or Centurion card.  Each cardholder can bring two guests, so presumably if your partner has a supplementary Platinum card then you’d be allowed four guests between you.

The action seems a little uneventful.  We’re talking, and I’m not making this up:

snow globe making

make your own home fragrance

beauty services

brunch with Father Christmas

“holiday tips related to shopping, clothing, and decorating”

Personally, I’ll be sticking to the free drinks “from Centurion Lounge renowned mixologist Jim Meehan”.  There is apparently free food and drink all day with a special ‘cocktail and canapes’ happy hour between 5pm and 7pm.

I reckon that Head for Points has at least 1,000 London-based American Express Platinum cardholders amongst its readership.

I suggest we head down there for cocktails and canapes at 5pm on Friday 24th November.  If you don’t have a Platinum card, come along anyway if you’re nearby – I’m sure someone can guest you in …..

I was wondering about that too…..hopefully Rob isn’t going to make last years, a one off, as I couldn’t make it 🙁

      • Rob says:

We have a plan, don’t worry.

        Hopefully an announcement next week.

We’re not sure how we’re paying for it yet, but we’re going to book it anyway (hopefully)!

  • Tariq says:

This was in the Platinum Vista email I received yesterday morning.

    • Lev441 says:

Excuse the ignorance but what’s a platinum vista?

      • Daniel says:

It’s just an email that AMEX Platinum card holders receive informing them of upcoming events, benefits, etc. You may need to opt into marketing to receive it.

  • Andy says:

I received an email from Amex for this (uk cardholder)

  • Daniel says:

I received an e-mail also (Platinum Vista).

  • Nigel Milligan says:

I received an e-mail on Thursday inviting me to the Centurion Lounge (as well as other events). The e-mail advised me to contact the Platinum Concierge regarding the Centurion Lounge. I haven’t yet – possibly you have to pre-register before you can use it.

    • Alan says:

The Vista email said just to contact Concierge if any questions, but didn’t seem to imply any need to pre-register that I could see?

  • Lauren B says:

Yeah it was featured in AmEx Vista email blast.

  • Chan P says:

    I got the same email

  • Johnny5a says:

The lounge was publicised. It was in the platinum card members VISTA email newsletter sent out yesterday morning.
