  OT (Bits): recently messaged MBNA to close my VS White card (still keeping the Black one) – they’ve offered me an extra 5,000 points for £1,000 spend in 90 days (+1k on the spend itself of course). Combined to the 12,000 sign-up points and £5 in spend so far (signed up in LHR Clubhouse therefor no minimum spend) it’s a pretty nice deal! At 0.75p VS mile valuation it works out 13.4% return on £1,005 spend 🙂

      Ah, interesting. Will be chasing them once I hit the target. Ideally would like to churn it so bit of a pain if having to wait 90 days for them.

    Hi Alan, did you message through online system or phone up? If online which message subject heading did you use. I was just considering canceling my Virgin white and was curious if they would offer anything to stay but none of the online message system headings seem suitable to send the message

      Hi Steve – online messaging, I picked ‘change of terms’ as topic, what I’ve always used over the years with cancelling MBNA cards (of which I’ve had many!).

          No probs – or could always try calling as Lev441 one did, specifically asking for offers. I wasn’t expecting anything given the singly low-cost transaction on the account but was very welcome when offered!

      I rang up and said I was thinking of cancelling.. were there any offers on the card to tempt me to keep it – and they said yes we have the 5k bonus for £1k spend.. I took them up on the offer!

  O/T sometimes pays to use the ’email the CEO’ site – some will know Mr Cruz came up trumps for me on F&booze in the summer – more likely his office just sorted it & told CS to get a move on

  anyway, I had a small issue vs Europcar dating from July – nothing in it apart from them not giving me a small refund for service recovery – they agreed it 8 weeks ago but then stalled/ did nothing to pay it

  a 1-liner to the CEO got it sorted in about 30 mins

  as it happens, looks like instead of refunding me, they have wrongly charged me the refund due – not bothered about this as I smell inconvenience 🙂

  Slight OT. What’s the best way to book BA flights for cash? Now I’ve got my BAPP I’ll get more points using that. Any other tricks like anything on Avios eshops Etc?

    – don’t pay the booking fee
    – use the Amex Travel deals (Amex statement credit) – they come up regularly eg £50 off £200
    – I posted a £10 off £100 code for BA European fares the other day – just need to find the box to put it in
