Bookable now with Avios – new BA winter sun routes from Heathrow and Gatwick

  We’ve booked a break to Tenerife a while back in Dec with BAs flights & hotel. What are the chances of being able to swap the return leg to LHR rather than to LGW?

    Close to zero, I’d expect. The change fees are pretty much prohibitive and unless your flights are re-timed before you fly by more than a few hours then you’re probably out of luck.

    If you cancel before you pay the balance (6 weeks before travel IIRC) you only loose your deposit – may be worthwhile checking the total cost of cancelling and rebooking the trip before you decide what to do.

  American Express Platinum.

  As a side note, I canceled my Amex Plat on Monday for a refund I had the card just over 71 days. Using it for lounge access etc On canceling the card and looking at the fee refund due to me they had miscalculated the fee by 4 days. I know this does not seem a lot in the grand scheme of things, it was £4.93 but it’s something which they should have been done correctly very easily. They, however, didn’t see their mistake when I pointed it out to them, they had to check it twice before they agreed it was wrong.

  A very small niggle but other people may have the same.

  Does anyone know why the Avios Map tool has disappeared from the BA Website again? It wasn’t available for a number of months last year too. I know I can use the Avios site but more convenient to access via BA especially if you’re flexible with travel dates & destinations. It’s time consuming using ‘Reward Flight Finder’ only 3 destinations & specific travel dates 🙁 …..a subtle ploy to make it difficult to redeem?

    BA IT had too many problems with it. It would report phantom availability and often not report real availability.

  Malaga, Paphos, Tenerife yes – they are all great winter sun destinations. In fact, the Andalucian pueblo of Torrox, 40 mins East of Malaga holds the record for the most sunshine of anywhere in Europe. Tenerife is warm rather than sunny but a good escape from the UK winter. Palma no – Majorca is cold, wet and generally closed in the winter. I can’t see the latter lasting as a BA winter route.

  The obvious winter destination missing is Antalya. It is many years since BA operated that route. In the intervening years five-star hotel capacity in Antalya province has increased five-fold and it has the same winter climate as nearby Cyprus.
