Hotel booking site Kaligo.com has launched a generous new promotion which can earn you up to 10,000 bonus Avios for hotel bookings made before 11th July.

There are two good things about the way this offer is structured:

The bonus you receive is based on CUMULATIVE hotel spending up to 11th July. You don’t have to hit the target in one booking.

ANYONE take part, even if they are already registered with Kaligo.com and even if they earned a bonus from their previous promotion

The bonuses you can earn are:

5,000 Avios if you spend £500 – £999

10,000 Avios if you spend £1,000+

This is on top of the usual 5-20 Avios points you earn with your booking. You only receive one of the three bonuses, based on your cumulative spending up to 11th July. (Your stays can be at any point up to 31st December 2017 – you only need to book before 11th July – although you only receive the bonus after all of the stays are complete.)

As usual with Kaligo.com, PointsHound and Rocketmiles, you should check competing sites before you book. They will not always be the cheapest every time, but if you factor in the value of the Avios points then they should be very competitive.

You also need to remember that Kaligo.com bookings will be treated as non-qualifying in any hotel loyalty scheme. You will not receive any hotel points and you may not receive any status benefits due to you. This is offer is best used when bookings chains where you do not have status or at independent properties.

Note that Kaligo.com now shows you competing prices from Expedia and the hotel itself during the booking process. It is now quite clear where Kaligo.com offers good value – and, indeed, where it doesn’t. This is a very impressive move by the company especially as they are not always cheaper.

I still need to book a hotel for an 11 night break next January. Do you think it would be worth splitting up bookings with this offer or putting the stay and spend towards a hotel scheme seeing as most of the places we’re interested in are part of big chains?

      As for info I’m looking to spend around £2500-£3000. Avios might be more useful but I’m trying to get more savvy with hotels as well as airline points.

        Personally I would definitely do the hotel points option. If you have no hotel status already it would be worth getting one just for this trip alone. Amex platinum card gets you Hilton and Marriott (via SPG) gold statuses. Both of which get you free breakfast.
        
        Hotel points are much easier to redeem and you don’t pay any taxes with them. Also you only need 1 hotel room per couple, as opposed to 2 airline tickets… if you see what I mean.

If you do use Kaligo, or any other booking site other than the direct ones, but you have a status with them, always speak to the reception. Tell them your status and ask them to put your membership number on the booking. If they note you have not booked direct explain that it is so your stay can be registered.

I booked my current trip all with Kaligo when they were giving 100% Avios bonus (company pays so hey ho) Have stayed in two Hilton Doubletrees, been upgraded in both and number registered in both. Did this last year and got 18,000 Hilton points even though booked by Kaligo.

Never hurts to ask.

When using Amex Platinum Fine Hotels and Resorts, do you have to pay with your Amex Platinum or can use any other Amex card?

  Most properties seem to allow any Amex (some any credit card!), I think I’ve only had one that wanted Amex Plat itself. First night deposit will have to go on Plat card when making booking (although I’ve never tried asking the Amex agent to put it on a different card, they might be up for it).

      FHR bookings always earn full points/benefits – can be a great combo with FHR upgrade/breakfast then elite benefits on top! You can be sure of this as payment goes straight to hotel.
      
      Be much more wary for other non-FHR Amex Travel hotel bookings – can be OK but often treated as 3rd party OTA ones (similar to Expedia, etc.)

        I’m seeing much cheaper prices on Amex Travel, Booking, Expedia than on hotel websites, even when choosing a room with breakfast included. Need to weigh the elite benefits/points vs cash saved.

        Worth contacting the hotel direct to see what they can offer you – whenever booking direct you’ll get all your benefits but they’ll receive more revenue by you booking direct so they’re normally keen to get you via that route!

I am looking to book two rooms for five days in Verona in August. Kaligo is £2979.58 and Hotels.com is £2160.00. So £819.58 more. Do your calculations carefully.

I have used Kaligo but you need to be very careful if you don’t want to be ripped off!

I think the Kaligo deal will work for us. Other sites are charging £735 for 3 nights in Vegas in Sept. With Kaligo it’s £752 plus 18300 avios. Sounds ok to me!
