Avios Ireland: 500 Avios with any purchase via SuperValu eShops

AerClub was, it seems, officially launched yesterday as a press release dropped into my inbox. I’m not sure why Aer Lingus waited a few months from the actual launch before formally telling people, but there you are. AerClub is now official and there are apparently 400,000 people signed up.

The German nightclub owners of aerclub.com will be delighted with the extra traffic!

Until 4th April, you can pick up 500 easy AerClub Avios by making a purchase from the SuperValu eShop. The minimum transaction size is €1.

You need to be a first-time user of the SuperValue eShop. You will receive 500 Real Rewards points for making your first transaction before 4th April, and those 500 Real Rewards points will convert into 500 AerClub Avios points.

VERY IMPORTANT: be aware that Supervalu convert your points to shopping vouchers – automatically – on certain fixed dates during the year. I ‘lost’ all my points (i.e. had them converted to supervalu vouchers which I did not want) this week, after building up lots of them with the intention of converting to Avios. I am really annoyed but there is no way round this – the FAQ specifically states that the vouchers can’t be converted back to points, the points are gone for ever.

The lesson: convert to Avios as soon as you get the Supervalu points, don’t wait!

Aer Club is the successor to the woeful Gold Circle, so reputation damaging misfires like the 250 points offer are sadly to be expected (suspect they may have made more effort if Tesco had wanted to expand Clubcard Avios deal from GB and NI to ROI).

The mediocre loyalty scheme shouldn’t put people off the terrific transatlantic services though, especially solo flyers – much better than IAG’s Club World product.

Incidentally for anyone heading west this evening, the effects of this morning’s disgusting no warning public transport closures have lifted mostly, but no one seems to know what’s going to happen from around 4pm onward.

Anyone coming travelling from Dublin airport into the city this evening should be prepared for hassle, unfortunately.

Do I need a Supervalu rewards card to collect points? Ive signed up but when i click on earn points via a brand its telling me I need a my rewards card number. I don’t live in Ireland so can I still do this??
