News in brief:

New British Airways lounge at Boston now open

The new British Airways lounge at Boston Logan opened earlier this week.  It was constructed as part of the expansion of Terminal E to include A380 gates and sees BA move into a new top-floor space with what seems like excellent views.

The lounge will also be used by Iberia, JAL and Cathay Pacific.  This means that it will open and close throughout the day according to departures – after a flight has departed it will re-open three hours before the next one.

BA has not supplied any photographs – there are some knocking around but none I can legally reproduce.  It looks very impressive, however, and shows that the airline is still prepared to invest when it wants to.

It operates as one combined First and Business Class lounge.   There is, however, a table-service dining area which is cordoned off and is exclusively available for First Class passengers.

Last call for the Hilton flash sale

A quick reminder that the current Hilton flash sale, covering the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa, ends tomorrow (Monday).

Hilton Honors members can get up to 25% off the best available rate for weekend stays between 24th March and 27th August 2017.

As the discount is based on the ‘Best Available Rate’ which is cancellable without charge as opposed to the flash sale rate which requires non-refundable pre-payment, you do need to take the ‘25% discount’ with a pinch of salt. However if you don’t plan on cancelling your stay you might find a good deal in the flash sale.  The sale home page is here.

British Airways drops Lima over the Winter

The new British Airways service to Lima has been cancelled for the Winter timetable which begins in late October.

If you were booked on the Gatwick – Lima flight you will be rerouted with Iberia via Madrid.  Rebooking on LATAM is not being offered.

It appears that the flight will return with the 2018 Summer timetable, starting in late March, when tourist loads pick up.  British Airways is using the aircraft to add additional capacity to Mauritius from Gatwick.

Isn’t October to March summer in Peru?

    • AndyR says:

Yeah but it also rains a lot more, so things like the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are more popular in the winter.

  • Nick_C says:

Didn’t know about the Lima route! Its not on Rob’s redemption chart. Its also very difficult to find on the BA app as it doesn’t apart as a destination in the Reward Flight Finder. Good availability though. Lots of J seats available in June. Perhaps not surprising if it’s a secret route! I could only find availability by checking specific dates.

Are there any more routes that are not on Rob’s chart?

I was in the new Boston lounge on Friday – completely unaware that it opened that very week – and it is very nice indeed. I missed a trick, I should have taken pictures for HfP! Worth noting that passengers can “board directly from the lounge” as the check-in person put in; more accurately I showed ID/boarding pass when exiting the lounge via a special door and after going downstairs a couple of levels I ended up in the jetway. I really appreciated avoiding the scrum at the gate!

I raised an eyebrow at the end of your comment until I realised that you said “scrum” and not “scum”!

OT: Has anyone experienced in store Waitrose purchases tracking with Virgin yet. It has been several days since I made a purchase but no sign of tracking/miles yet.

    • Fenny says:

Nothing yet. But I really can’t imagine they will post very quickly. Considering I shop in Waitrose every weekday, they probably won’t be set up for loads of transactions being processed overnight.

OT. £10 off Addison Lee offer on my Amex Gold. Terms state no airport transfers, but I just received confirmation from Amex say credit has been triggered for a booking To T3 tomorrow. Also stacked with £15 off code March15 for first time users of the app(obviously only a few days left for this code)

My Lima 241 flights in November got cancelled this week and BA Gold line offered to rebook us on some extremely inconvenient Iberia flights via Madrid. This would flying from LHR at 06.20 and then over 20 hour journey, compared to 14 hour direct flight from LGW. Of course there are plenty of better options (via MIA or JFK) but BA not offering these at the moment as no doubt will cost them more money. Good to know that BA looks after its loyal (well not anymore!) Gold members!

I have a one way to Lima as part of a 2 for 1 booked in September. Hopefully not similarly impacted.
