ITB Berlin news in brief:

The new Emirates A380 bar revealed

Emirates showcased their new A380 business and first class bar at ITB and I thought I would share a few pictures.

Emirates had brought along a fully fitted, actual size, not-a-model bar which had presumably been diverted on its way to the Airbus factory.  The colour scheme is noticeably lighter.

The new bar will be installed on future A380 deliveries but will not be retro-fitted to the existing fleet of 96 aircraft.

Emirates claims that the bar can hold 26 people including eight seated.

The new A380 bar has got two seating areas for four people – one laid out like this:

…. and a table for four laid out with a three person sofa and one seat at the end of the table.

The seats each have a belt allowing seated passengers to remain in the bar during period of turbulence.

According to Emirates it “will also introduce soundproof curtains to partition the Onboard Lounge area from the other cabins, put in additional soft ambient lighting options, new window blinds with integrated LED mood lighting, and subwoofers for surround sound.”

Qsuite video on YouTube

Our main article yesterday was on the launch of the impressive new ‘First Class comes to Business Class’ Qatar Airways Qsuite, being rolled out from June.

As I wrote this quite late at night I didn’t have time to edit the video I shot at the launch.  I have inserted it below if you want to take a look.  It is only 75 seconds long and covers the event and the seat.

If you want to subscribe to our YouTube channel and be notified about future videos, click here to visit our YouTube channel page.  You can also watch the video via that page if it does not appear below.

Two official Qatar Airways videos of the new seat can be found in my article yesterday.

The table and 2 bench seats reminds me of our family caravan holidays to dorset many years ago. How many more A380s is emirates ordering, have they not got enough already?

  • Daz says:

I showed my 11 year old daughter the new QR business class suite and single seating as she has travelled on the QR 787 and 777 configs – She loved it as you can all guess. I then showed her the BA 747 CW pics for the flight we’re taking to Colorado next year skiing. Mmmmmm not so happy with BA, me thinks I have created a monster!!

    QR all the way man.

    • Rob says:

I have the same issue. My kids always say ‘are we flying Emirates?’. ‘No, BA, sorry’. ‘But the TV is rubbish Daddy’.

      • Daz says:

I obviously blame it on you Rob, after all you got me on to this palaver 😉

  • Jeremy says:

Does anyone know what they’re going to do with Qatar First now?

    • Rob says:

Will remain, may be jazzed up a bit but will remain as is, basically. It is only on a handful of planes after all.

Just had my A380 shower. Bet you can’t wait for that YouTube video ….

  • Rachel says:

Hi Rob. Flew Qatar Copenhagen to Sydney last year thanks to your highlighting of the sale on sometime around this time of year I believe, or in the coming month or two. Thank you for that, I have converted my bf to business class! Was wondering if you know when the next sale might be for this year?

  • Talay says:

Emirates were moving ahead of Etihad on my radar given the 2 x A380 versus the 777/380 combo Etihad run on the LHR-BKK routing but this from Qatar might take some beating.

However, as we are a 3 and not a 2 or 4 person family, we fall foul of any Qatar even numbered discounting offers. We also won’t add a leg to an EU port for a cheaper fare (would on the outward – couldn’t face it on the way back).

On cash fares, I find Qatar often way OTT on pricing with something like £3.5/5k return on LHR-BKK versus a routine £1650/1800 fare on Etihad / Emirates. If only they would normalise their fares outside sales then they could become our main carrier.
