Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Higher-than-usual 800 Avios bonus for signing up with e-Rewards

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

I am not a big fan of earning Avios or indeed any loyalty points via e-Rewards.  That said, when I wrote this article four years ago about the ‘points for questionnaires’ company, I got a mini-backlash from people who were doing quite nicely out it.

In general, with most loyalty partners, you cannot join e-Rewards at will. You had to wait to be invited by a sponsoring hotel or airline.

The avios.com and British Airways Executive Club versions, on the other hand, are available for anyone to sign up.

And, until 31st March, avios.com is offering 800 Avios points for joining and completing just one survey.  This is an admittedly modest increase on the usual bonus of 750 Avios.

If you join via British Airways Executive Club, the bonus is just 750 Avios.

The avios.com sign-up page is here.

The ba.com sign-up page is here (scroll down to the e-rewards box)

In theory you could sign up for both if you used a different email address …..

The company is also an Iberia Plus partner, but that version remains ‘invitation only’.

Long-term, I am not a fan of e-Rewards. I think that it requires more effort than it is worth. However, 750 or 800 Avios for completing one survey is an option too good to miss.

I use erewards regularly and signed up via IHG ( not the new IHG Opinion one) and it allows me to transfer points to IHG, Hilton, Avios, Iberia, American Airlines and many more – I am saving AA miles for an island hop in Hawaii at some time in the future and use them for qualifying pts for IHG towards Spire. Hubby and daughter have accounts via Virgin which allow transfers to Hilton, IHG and Virgin. Hubby got offered the new IHG Opinion surveys which I agree are rubbish but as he is just a club member it helps reset his account – he also had an odd number of pts so we did a few surveys to round his account up enough for another redemption. I do them 2-3 evenings a week and I agree they can be frustrating and boring but the pts soon mount up!

  • Alex W says:

What happened to those triplet things? They were a much easier way to spend a few minutes while on the loo etc.

  • chris1922 says:

I’m one of the few who actually likes erewards. I can get around 10-12,000 Avios a year this way, more if I really push. For someone who really only flies domestic, and then on flybe or easy, it’s a useful way to top up my account, as well as Tesco and churning cards.
I usually take one during my lunch hour, or when the missus is watching some trashy telly.
Sure, they aren’t for everyone, and some surveys are tedious, but it’s hardly taxing. Some are genuinely interesting; for airlines, or credit cards.
I’ve been a member since the BMi days.

    • chris1922 says:

Oh, meant to add, if it wasn’t for my erewards Avios, I’d have no chance of reaching my Avios “Boost” target, and am on track to reach my super boost too. So, another 4000 due this earning partner.

    • Fenny says:

I like e-rewards. I used to get a lot of points from Toluna, but that got to the stage where I was getting screened out too often and points were taking too long to come through, so I packed it in to concentrate on e-rewards. I think things have slowed down in the last 12 months, but I can collect enough IB avios, IHG or Hilton points to top up accounts when needed. I recently redeemed some Hilton points to stop my balance from expiring. IHG points count towards status, which is useful if you need to hit a target.

  • Graeme says:

I idly flick through them while the missus watches Eastenders and the like. For the amount of real effort I put in, I do very well out of them. Angle yourself the right way and you can get some surveys with huge amounts of points – and as mark2 says, you learn how not to fall at the first hurdle. Their customer service has definitely got worse in the last couple of years, but I find they generally credit me if complain about a survey not crediting upon completion.

I have an Avios account and an Iberia account which has several more partners – as has been said, it’s very useful for topping up balances if need be, otherwise it’s a nice few Avios for the non-business collector.

  • Alan says:

I use E-rewards and do a few surveys a week. They can be very boring but, if I’m not doing anything else, then its fine. Personally I quite like the ones where I get kicked out early. They take seconds to do and then 25 points are added. At least I don’t get bored with those!

I have used mine for Amazon vouchers mainly but also for keeping my Virgin account active. That was before I discovered this place and the numerous ways of building your points totals. Still an extra few thousand miles a year are worth having as long as the surveys aren’t too obtrusive.

  • Michael says:

I honestly don’t know how e-Rewards get away it to be honest. Just when you think your 10mins+ of answering questions will be rewarded, more often than not you receive an onscreen message saying you’re not eligible for the survey – they have pre-survey surveys!!!
As others have highlighted, I value my time more and cannot advise highly enough that you only do this for either the sign-up bonus or to keep some points alive on a particular scheme.
    I’m not bitter either 🙂

  • Andrew H says:

E-Rewards is a great source of Avios. Some of the comments above have left me scratching my head. ‘Steer well clear’ ‘waste of time’. My Avios balance says otherwise.

    • mark2 says:

      +1
and Hilton Honors too where you get 7000 Honors points for 8000 e-rewards points.

      • anon says:

Hi Mark2 – which rewards scheme allows Honors points as a redemption option – I’d like to join that one.

        • Liz says:

ERewards via Virgin allows you to transfer to IHG and Hilton. Initial sign up pts go to your Virgin account but after that you can choose who you want. Didn’t realise the 90 day restriction had been lifted for Hilton as I always keep a diary note ! Also American Airline allows IHG, Hilton and AA.

          • mark2 says:

90 day restriction still in force, for each HH account number but no check kept by them

          • Liz says:

I just tried a redemption to HH within 90 days and it worked – I had the pts saved but not due to transfer for another 3 weeks! 🙂

    • Thomas says:

Agreed.. 24,000 Avios a year on one account and 32,000 IHG on another.. Really very easy to do..

  • mark2 says:

    Another E-Rewards tip:
when you get an email telling you that you have a survey waiting, before you click on the link open your e-rewards account and click on ‘Find Survey’. You would expect to get the same survey but sometimes you get an extra one which is hiding. Then click on the link afterwards.

    • RussellH says:

I find that the ‘Find Survey’ button is a much more reliable way of getting surveys to work than the e-mails that they send out. Even if I follow up on the e-mail immediately, I often get told that the survey is now closed.

Accounts differ in what you can get for your points. If you sign up through either the Avios.com or BAEC links, then you can only exchange into that specific programme. But signing up through the link on the Accor website or a Hilton invitation, you can not only convert points to those schemes and to Avios.com or BAEC, but also to any number of other airline schemes. You get up to 50% more avios when converting to Iberia than to Avios.com or BAEC.

The Avios.com and BAEC schemes I just do for the first 1000 points, then cancel.

Over the last two years from one account I have had 6525 Accor points, 4250 Virgin miles and 3000 Iberia Avios.

You are not supposed to have more than one account, and it does seem that they do check occasionally – I once asked why my account from a Hilton sign up never got any surveys and they told me that it was because it was a duplicate account. I do always sign up with a completely new e-mail address; they do not seem bothered by French or German addresses though.

The Accor points, in particular, have made a difference. I never get enough from stays to be worth anything, but combined with the ones from e-Rewards they have given me €160 towards hotel bills, which is not to be sniffed at!

      • xcalx says:

I have 6 active accounts and have never had one shut down, The best part of Erewards for me is that it’s possible to change the members name whenever and transfer into that FF programme.
