Higher-than-usual 800 Avios bonus for signing up with e-Rewards

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

I am not a big fan of earning Avios or indeed any loyalty points via e-Rewards.  That said, when I wrote this article four years ago about the ‘points for questionnaires’ company, I got a mini-backlash from people who were doing quite nicely out it.

In general, with most loyalty partners, you cannot join e-Rewards at will. You had to wait to be invited by a sponsoring hotel or airline.

The avios.com and British Airways Executive Club versions, on the other hand, are available for anyone to sign up.

And, until 31st March, avios.com is offering 800 Avios points for joining and completing just one survey.  This is an admittedly modest increase on the usual bonus of 750 Avios.

If you join via British Airways Executive Club, the bonus is just 750 Avios.

The avios.com sign-up page is here.

The ba.com sign-up page is here (scroll down to the e-rewards box)

In theory you could sign up for both if you used a different email address …..

The company is also an Iberia Plus partner, but that version remains ‘invitation only’.

Long-term, I am not a fan of e-Rewards. I think that it requires more effort than it is worth. However, 750 or 800 Avios for completing one survey is an option too good to miss.

I agree that it’s more effort than it’s worth. They also lure you in by “inviting” you to complete a survey, then 4 or 5 “qualifying” questions in tell you that you’re not eligible to take part!

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Is the first survey considered as all those questions they ask when you sign up (job details, income, flights taken, etc) or do you have to wait until they send you another survey to get the bonus?

I’ve just signed up and am already regretting it. Too many questions for even 800 Avios.

  • David says:

I signed up via Accor quite a while ago, and am able to credit my points to all three of BA, Iberia, and Avios. Works quite nicely on those (rare) days I have little work to do on a very lengthy commute

    • Dave R says:

Always credit to Iberia if you have the choice as the rate is better

      • David says:

Yes…but…if you’re earning enough to have points left over per month (each can only be redeemed once every 30 days) then you might as well redeem for the other two as well. 5k avios/month!

  • N says:

Waste of time, but excellent for earning points in schemes with points expiry and keeping an account alive.

  • Crafty says:

They are completely intransigent about actually giving you the points. Steer well clear

    • Mike says:

Been stung before with e rewards – I’m not that desperate for 800 avios

      • Worzel says:

Thank you Crafty and Mike for your advice.

Much better, IMV, to hang around and get the odd 18,700 from car hire(can’t say too much without upsetting a couple of readers) or entering a competition(same company) and getting 18,000 !

        🙂 .

  • mark2 says:

I have joined a number of times via various invitations and do earn quite a few ER points to convert to Avios, Honors and other points but you have to just ignore the many annoyances.
You soon learn how to avoid falling at the first hurdle (and not always getting the minimum points). More annoying is when it just freezes after you have spent 20 minutes answering inane questions about how an advertisement made you feel and you get no points. Or just before the end, after you have answered the questions it decides that you were not suitable after all and you get nothing.
With multiple accounts you also run up against the rule that you can usually only claim a type of reward e.g. Avios every 90 days (this is actually implemented as a particular Avios account).
Remember that a couple can each join and on the BA and Avios sites you can also join Rewards for Thoughts which is a bit more robust but only earns Avios (except for the sister IHG scheme which is as I would expect from IHG – rubbish).
So not really recommended after the initial bonus unless you have time to kill.

    • John says:

      Indeed. I have 8 accounts.

Recently, they have lifted the restriction that you can only redeem to any one Hilton account every 90 days.

Got 56000 Hilton points in the space of 2 weeks 🙂

      • anon says:

How was it possible John to earn so many HH points in such a short space of time? On my E-rewards redemption options, it doesn’t even show Hilton! But hats off to you – thats really well done.

  • Mark says:

I’ve done pretty well from e-rewards. can’t even remember which scheme I signed up through but avios are not available to me. I cash the points in for £10/£20 amazon vouchers. As someone said, if you’ve got a few bored moments the surveys can be ok for killing time

    • BigDave says:

indeed if you expect any more from it you will be dissapointed, but trundle along and you will work out which questions to answer and how – sometimes it crashes and goes straight to the end and gives you all the points anyway, sometimes it crashes 20 minutes in and you lose them … thats the way it crumbles…. been getting 2000 avios from it practically every month or month and a half.
Stick to the shorter ones and lower reward ones – they are usually easier to do and you’ll find you get through a few in your ‘down time’

      • David says:

Are you not crediting to Iberia for 8,000 erewards points = 3,000 avios?

        • mark2 says:

sometimes you can only convert to Avios

        • Graeme says:

I have one account that only converts to Avios and another that only converts to Iberia (of Avios-earning routes, they have many others). The Iberia earning rate is better, but I get less surveys that way.

        • julie says:

David and Graeme, may I ask, is there a limit on the maximum reward you can redeem per month with the Iberia account (i.e. is the 8000 E Rewards points converting to 3000 avios the max you can claim per month?). I have the Avios.com account and earn more than 6500 E Reward points per month but can only ever redeem the maximum 6500 or 2000 avios. if I were to open an Iberia account and wait for the invite I am wondering if I would be able to get 3000 avios per month instead of 2000, that would be an extra 12,000 per year potentially!

          • David says:

I convert 8,000 points to Iberia (for 3,000 avios), and then 3500 each to avios and BAEC for 1,000 avios each. Total 5k avios/month = 60k avios per year.

            🙂

  • Brian says:

E-rewards is actually really good in comparison to IHG’s Opinion Rewards, which is, as mark2 suggests, absolutely terrible and sometimes offers 30 or 50 points for completing a survey that can take up to 20 minutes. That’s less than 20p according to my valuation… And they are even more stringent than e-rewards about whether you fit the bill – so you’ll waste about 10 minutes and then they kick you out and give you 5 points…
