Earn up to 15,000 Avios booking hotels via Agoda PointsMAX

Avios has teamed up with hotel booking site Agoda to offer additional points on hotel bookings made via their PointsMAX scheme.

Agoda is a Hotels.com-style hotel booking website, originally launched in Asia.  It was acquired by Priceline and is now a sister company to booking.com.  We have covered PointsMAX on Head for Points before – you may remember that Anika used it to book a hotel in Split last Summer.

The new promotion is only valid for bookings made via the special Agoda / Avios booking page here.

The small print implies that points can be credited to either British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus or avios.com.  However, the booking form asks for your Avios number which potentially implies avios.com only.

The standard earnings rate is 2 Avios per $1 equivalent spent.  Under this offer the Avios you earn seems to vary wildly between 3 and 8 per £1 spent.  You can allegedly earn up to 15,000 Avios per night but that would require a wildly expensive suite I think!

The key thing to know about Agoda is that you generally pay a higher price for your room if you use the PointsMAX feature.

This is tucked away in the small print:

“The rates for PointsMAX bookings may be different from regular bookings at the same conditions”

…. but you can easily miss it.  You should therefore double check Agoda’s standard price as well as the direct booking price for the hotel you are considering.

Annoyingly, you won’t see the ‘no points’ price on Agoda when using the special Avios website link.  You will need to use the Agoda homepage here.
