Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

ENDING SOON: £15 off £25 at Amazon for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

If you missed this offer when I wrote about it just before Christmas, or you simply forgot about it in the whirl of the festive season, it isn’t too late.

You still have time to save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

This offer is open to anyone with a Green, Gold, Platinum or Centurion Amex charge card.  If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you won’t have been contacted about it, but you can still take part.

Amazon

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

You MUST select your Membership Rewards-earning Amex card as your payment card (you cannot use gift cards or any other payment source)

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ MR points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs for another few days until 31st January.  It is limited to the first 33,333 people to order but, oddly, the cap does not seem to have been hit so far.

I managed to use this today and the £15 off code AMEX16SWP stacked with the £10 off code BIGTHANKS, so £25 off a £50 spend.

The £10 off code is valid today ONLY.

    Confirmed working!

  • James Ward says:

Still working at 11:35 Friday 20 Jan. Stacked with BIGTHANKS. Used HFP referral link 🙂

  • POLIN says:

Do I have to pay with my AMEX card too? When I tried paying with Amazon voucher, I’ve seem to have lost some discount!

  • Kathy says:

Not sure why I couldn’t get this to work tonight.

  • shd says:

Can you buy a gift card and get the discount?

  • Hayley says:

    AMEX16SWP not working

    • Rob says:

Sure you’re doing it right? All items sold by Amazon, payment on your Amex card, some MR used as part payment?

      • Steve says:

It wasn’t working for me last night either… Was def doing it the way you suggested.. Maybe it’s reached the magic number of uses?

        • Jono says:

The code appeared to be being rejected for me until I progressed thru to the final Confirmation page and could see the discount was being applied.

  • Alex says:

I tried with a 25 giftcard and it didn’t work. Another item (total of 31.23) and credit worked. So maybe it’s just the GC that is being blocked?

    • Alan says:

Gift cards are excluded from the offer – was in the original T&Cs for it… 😉

  • Kevin Deamer says:

Just bought a new Sat Nav on Amazon & got £15 off. Part paid by using 2 Amex points – it worked exactly as described by Rob.
