Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope you enjoy a well deserved break, wherever in the world you are.

Do please post below if your travels have taken you anywhere exciting this Christmas.  I am in London with the in-laws!  Anika is in Hamburg with her family.

Head for Points is taking a two day break. We will be back on Tuesday 27th with a review of my travel highlights and lowlights of 2016.

If you want something to read in the meantime, take a look under the ‘Favourite Articles‘ tab where you will find my pick of the most relevant pieces published in 2016, including our ‘Avios Redemption University‘ series and all of our credit card reviews.

If you collect Avios via Tesco Clubcard, you may also want to take a look at the recent articles over at our sister site Shopper Points.

Thank you for your support over the past year.

Merry Xmas from NYC, got here in F with a 241 and will be checking in later for 2 free nights at the Intercontinental Times Square. Cheers to Raffles and Anika, plus all the HFPers who post such useful comments.

Just learnt that if you get a refund to your Amex, they will ignore the refund and still collect that figure as a direct debit!

So I now have a large positive balance into four figures!

Discovered this similarly with my BAPP card in advance of DD payment and queried – advised to cancel DD and to ask to have reinstated a month later.

I did so only for Barclays to decline the new DD.

Cycle repeated the following month.. Paying manually for now.

    • Talay says:

Refunds yes but not if they arrive early enough. They don’t count towards your monthly repayment (if you borrow).

      • ian says:

Mine arrived well before the 4 day cut off period – about a week.

The spiel on the site says ‘we will reduce the DD amount by any payments’. What it fails to say is refunds do not count as payments.

Logged a ticket and was of course told this by, I assume, someone from India as the command of the English language was poor. Mind you looking at Facebook these days she could be from anywhere in the UK 🙁

I thought credit card companies didn’t like you to have a positive balance?

Celebrating Christmas in Paris in the weird way of French celebrations …

And why are they weird Paul?
Ah! Ah! I am glad you f***king asked Paul.

They are weird for three reasons:

Had a look on the 23rd and found a business class seat to Tokyo on the morning of the 24th…so slightly stressful packing and hotel research but booked nonetheless.
