Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

£15 off £25 Amazon purchase for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

American Express sent out an interesting offer to its Gold, Green, Centurion and Platinum cardholders yesterday.

You will save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you may not have received it.  Not to worry, it is still open to you.

Amazon

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ Membership Rewards points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs until 31st January.  However, it is limited to the first 33,333 people to order so I wouldn’t leave it too late.

Second successful order placed on my wife’s account at 9.15pm for a Fire HD Stick – bargain at £13! The first order earlier today saw me stock up on bargain Pampers Nappies (living the dream).

Merry Christmas to Rob, Anika and all HfP readers!

Has anyone got a second MR a/c working on the same Amazon account?

I’ve had the same MR a/c work on 2 separate Amazon a/cs, but can’t get a second different MR a/c working on either amazon a/c

It s not much but to make it £20 off Amazon in one day- if you are a Prime member you can buy an extra £100 gift card top up and they give you an extra £5 onto the account free and gratis.

I tried to use another rewards card on my Amazon account, did not work. Amazon told me the 33,333 limit had been reached.

I used another (friend’s) account, and it worked. So it seems one promotion per amazon account.

    Not working by me.

    Comes out a error:

The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.

    Any help?

It’s very strange… worked on two accounts belonging to my wife (both Prime) and is working on one of mine (not Prime), but not working on quite a few others.

The accounts I’ve tested are a mixture of old and brand new, many previous orders vs not so many previous orders, just added Amex MR card vs long-standing Amex MR card… I haven’t found any identifiable variable for success ¯_(ツ)_/¯
