First two BA strike dates announced – and what you can do to prepare

Unite has announced the first two strike dates for British Airways mixed fleet cabin crew – Sunday 25 December and Monday 26 December 2016.

The current plan is to operate all long haul services. Services from Gatwick and London City will not be impacted at all.

The following short haul routes are at risk of cancellation on 25th and 26th:

Bergen
Belfast City
Bilbao
Bologna
Basel
Budapest
Dusseldorf
Gibraltar
Gothenburg
Hannover
Hamburg
Helsinki
Kiev
Krakow
St Petersburg
Lisbon
Luxembourg
Manchester
Paris Orly
Oslo
Prague
Pisa
Stuttgart
Stavanger
Venice
Vienna
Warsaw
Zagreb

Passengers booked on these routes currently have the option of:

requesting a refund for their flight, or

transferring to another BA flight on a different day or

flying to another city within 300 miles not on the list above

BA will not move you to a different airline at this stage. That would only be an option when your flight is definitely cancelled.

Very clever strategy by the TU to strike on these two days. Firstly the crew get to be home with family.
Secondly strike is limited to EU but with global impact due reliance on transfer traffic. BA will either have to settle or take early action to cancel to prevent scenes at LHR which would not play well on Christmas Day.
They have a reduced flying plan and a complex and well thought out system for parking aircraft at LHR. This adds complexity at a time when most people are winding down for Christmas. Load factors also very high on both days.
I think BA will either give in or they will take early action to curtail the scenes of chaos at LHR.
I support the crew but am not flying.

I take offence to Lee’s comments. The crew are not lazy…obviously if they need to take on second jobs to bump up their salaries they are far from lazy. Some people feel the need to strike when all else fails sadly.
I certainly support them and support all staff who work for the public such as all the 999 style crew as usually they deserve it.
