Miles & More: 8000 miles with a hotel, 11400 miles with The Economist

There are two generous Lufthansa Miles & More offers running at the moment – they may be worth a look if you were also considering getting their credit card (the offer for 10,000 bonus miles ends today).

The first deal is yet another attempt to persuade people to try out the new Lufthansa hotel booking site.

This month the offer is in English as well as German, handily.

Lufthansa A340

You will receive at least 8,000 miles for making a two-night hotel booking.  You need to book by the end of the year although the stay can be for a later date.

The miles are made up of a 6,000 mile bonus and a minimum earning rate for your stay of 1,000 miles per night.  It is only valid for ‘first time’ bookers on the Miles & More hotel booking portal.

Given that you can easily value Miles & More miles at 1p each, and that they can be tricky to pick up, this is a decent deal if you have a stay coming up.  The only thing to remember is that you won’t earn points from the hotel itself and you may not even receive any elite benefits due to you.

The page to book your hotel is here.

And an Economist deal …..

Lufthansa has also brought back a new Miles & More deal for Economist subscriptions.

These are no longer refundable part-way through the year so your subscription is a sunk cost.  It is still an attractive offer though:

  • 11,400 miles for a £179 ‘print and digital’ subscription
  • 8,700 miles for a £145 print subscription
  • 8,700 miles for a £145 digital subscription

The subscription page is here.  The offer runs until the end of January.

Re the Economist subscription, was the previous Avios deal for 12,000 ? My memory is failing !

  • Genghis says:

    I paid £155 for a sub+12k avios in Jan.

  • Waribai says:

Is the hotel booking offer just for your first booking or can this be earned multiple times?

  • Waribai says:

Ok, just reread. First time only!

    • zsalya says:

I did October for the 4k bonus.
Wife did November for the 5k bonus.
Now I’m wishing we had waited.
How much higher will it go?
BTW, on the bookings we made the price was lower than booking.com so a good idea even without the miles.

O/T: Todays IHG Iggy, ironic after my rumblngs on Air China (sorry Rob) the IHG location is Shanghai.

    Iggy is middle left

Its arguably an expensive way to buy this watch… >2.5million pts!!!

    • Graeme says:

you sure, I have double checked and see it as 854000?? still expensive though 🙂

      854000 Points
TAG HEUER WAR2416.BA0776 CARRERA CALIBRE 9 AUTOMATIC LADIES WATCH

      • Peter K says:

        I also found 854000.

        • Graeme says:

@anon which location are you choosing, I’m selecting UK. That may explain different model number and points required? Would certainly bugger up the competition if that was the case..

      • Scott says:

The automatic version of the watch is 854k. The non-automatic (also called a Carrera Calibre 9 ladies) is 2553k. Which is the right one to choose? I’m going for the latter as ‘automatic’ isn’t mentioned in the quiz question.

        • Janeyferr says:

I went for the cheaper, as the more expensive features rose gold and the picture of the item to win seems to be one colour. I think.

          • Peter K says:

It’s a shame they don’t vet these comps more carefully. On the Accor one this year for example there was a multiple choice about where “classic US” food really originated. Only problem is that the answers they provided were not the actual origin either!

          • danksy says:

The picture shows an automatic watch.. so presume 854k is the right answer?

          • Anon says:

Think you folks are correct on the cheaper watch, it’s been fairly ambiguous on a number of occasions, poor form.

        • Graeme says:

I don’t see the more expensive version on the options… confusing to say the least!

          • Graeme says:

forget the comment above , now I do! the picture clearly shows the automatic version as others mention, whereas the more expensive option is clearly visually different..

  • Boris says:

Had 9k bonus points from Best Western / Lufthansa offer post yesterday.

    18k or so to go.

  • Andy says:

I think there is currently an offer for 8000 Accor points with an Economist subscription. Seems like with Accor just being worth a straight cash reduction there’s no arb opportunity here, though you will effectively get a free Economist sbuscription.

  • Sergeant Major says:

Went to apply for miles and more card on mbna website and the offer has already been altered (a day earlier). Only 1500 miles bonus now..

    • Mark LLL says:

They must have hit their quota and pulled the bonus offer.

    • Boris says:

      Strange.

It was saying 10k when I took one out at 10pm on the last day.

      • Rob says:

You will occasionally find that MBNA pulls an offer whilst the airline site still has it, or vice versa. MBNA also tends to run separate application sites for special deals so a Google search may take you to the standard offer whilst a different URL gets you to the higher bonus. They are odd like that ….
