How do you earn Virgin Points at YOTEL hotels?

Today I want to look at how you can earn Virgin Points, in the Virgin Atlantic frequent flyer scheme, when you stay at YOTEL hotels.

I recently ran an article outlining hotels chains which do not give Avios but which do give Virgin Points.  YOTEL is one of the more significant places so it is worth taking a closer look.

To earn Virgin Atlantic miles at YOTEL, you must join their club

In order to earn Virgin Points (or indeed Flying Blue miles) at YOTEL you need to join – free – Club@YOTEL, the membership scheme for YOTEL hotels.

Back in 2018, YOTEL launched a free membership scheme called My YOTEL.  It was, frankly, useless.  It gave absolutely no benefits at all for frequent guests – literally nothing.  The only benefit, in return for giving them all of your details, was a discount of ‘at least’ 10% when you stay at the Yotel New York (pictured below), Yotel Boston or Yotel Singapore hotels.  No other properties were included.

YOTEL has now overhauled My YOTEL, which has morphed into Club@YOTEL.

How does Club@YOTEL work?

It is free to sign up via that page.

Unfortunately, the benefits are not very impressive:

‘Real’ benefits:

• Save 10% on every booking you make*
• Earn miles with two frequent flyer schemes – Air France / KLM Flying Blue and Virgin Flying Club

Benefits which aren’t really worth anything:

• View existing bookings in your online account
• View and edit your personal details in your online account
• View and edit your subscriber preferences
• Receive our latest offers by email (you can unsubscribe at anytime)

The 10% discount still comes with an asterisk next to it, as you can see.  The text relating to the asterisk no longer exists, but it used to say that most YOTELAIR hotels were excluded except for Singapore and Istanbul.

How do you earn Virgin Atlantic miles at YOTEL?

The YOTEL website is very vague about the fact that you can actually earn Virgin Points from your stay.  This is all they say (scroll to the bottom):

Join the Club@YOTEL to earn miles or points with AF/KLM Flying Blue and Virgin Points. All you need to do is to enter your membership numbers in your Club@YOTEL account, and they will be automatically added to your booking. Note that you can’t use a partner airline loyalty number e.g. Delta, Emirates. This offer is only available for qualifying bookings when you book direct at yotel.com. If you have any queries on missing or awarded miles, please first contact your relevant Flying Blue or Virgin Points helpline.

Here is the YOTEL page on the Virgin Atlantic website.  You will earn:

500 miles for a stay at YOTEL New York of 3 nights or more

100 miles for a stay of any length at YOTEL Heathrow, Gatwick, Amsterdam Schipol and Paris Charles de Gaulle airports

You need to book direct on the YOTEL website to get these rates.

Conclusion

100 Virgin Flying Club miles – which is all you get at their European airport hotels – is definitely not something to get excited about.  However, if you are doing a stay anyway, you might as well take what you can get.

You won’t earn anything at their other hotels, apart from New York, but on the upside you may save a few pounds via your free Club@YOTEL membership.
