Starwood Preferred Guest, the loyalty scheme for Westin, Sheraton, W, St Regis etc, has an interesting tie-up with Emirates which a lot of people don’t know about.

It is called ‘Your World Rewards’ and is designed to encourage Emirates flyers to stay at SPG hotels and vice versa.  The bottom line is that signing up is a no-brainer if you qualify.

Full details can be found on the Emirates website here.

Emirates A380

For Emirates flyers at SPG hotels:

If you are an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member you will receive 1 Skywards mile for every $1 you spend in an SPG hotel.  Importantly, this is in addition to the Starwood Preferred Guest points that you already receive.  This is a genuine extra benefit.

If you are a Gold or Platinum (sorry Silvers!) Skywards member, you will also receive additional SPG benefits which are equivalent to those that a Gold-level SPG member would receive.  This are:

Priority check-in

4pm late check-out subject to availability

Free wi-fi

For SPG members when flying Emirates:

SPG Gold or Platinum members will receive 1 SPG point per $1 spent on Emirates flights.  All Emirates flights count as long as your ticket is under an EK flight code.

This is a very generous deal in my view.  I tend to value SPG points at 1.5p each.  A £3,000 Emirates business class flight would therefore earn you £60 of free hotel stays.  This is on top of your usual Skywards miles.

Remember that you can obtain SPG Gold status for free by signing up for the American Express Platinum charge card.  You will retain your SPG Gold status for a full year even if you later choose to cancel your Platinum card.  You can also get SPG Gold status via the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card after spending £15,000 in a year.

You need to register for ‘Your World Rewards’ – it is not automatic.  You can register via this page on the Emirates websiteThe Emirates website also includes further details of ‘Your World Rewards’ if you want to know more.

How to earn Emirates Skywards miles from UK credit cards (December 2021)

Emirates Skywards does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Emirates Skywards miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cardsThese are:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Emirates Skywards miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Emirates Skywards mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Don’t forget you can also link your Uber and SPG accounts.

I was keep getting odd numbers of SPG points added and wondered where they were coming from (thanks AwardWallet) the points help keep my SPG points active without staying!

    • Oh! Matron! says:

You need to have at least one stay every year for the points to keep coming. Find a cheap Aloft in Jan!

      • marly says:

I had a stay and using uber all the times but it’s not adding up for some reason, gutted!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Double while you’re staying at an SPG hotel

  • Brian says:

OT – sorry, but there’s no bits article and I thought it might be of interest – there is a big sign by the gift cards in my local Tesco, advertising the 150 points deal and saying ‘Hurry, this offer finished on 25 September 2016’. So it looks like it’s official!

    • Raffles says:

      Boo!

    • Michael says:

I have seen this too yesterday. This was the main reason I went shopping to Tesco. Guess my local supermarket will be happy now.

    • Brian says:

      *finishes*

    • Roger says:

Was that not only for iTunes GCs?
Well, that’s how I saw on mine….So there is still some hope….

      • Brian says:

No, this was for the general gift cards, alas.

        • Gavin says:

Saw it today at Taplow. Abroad from tomorrow so my gift card boat has sailed until next time…

          • Brian says:

Will be interesting to see if they are ‘enhancing’ the offer or abolishing it fully.

      • YL says:

I am afraid I just saw the same notice at a Tesco Extra….:-((
Tesco has been kind to have sent me some money off weekly coupons recently…. and now I am going to struggle to use them after the gift card offer end!

    • Fenny says:

I wonder if Tesco realises how much their gross sales figures are going to fall by? I’ve probably spent £250 on gift cards in the last month, but probably only about £50 on anything else. I’ll bag some more cards over the weekend and use the latest £6 off £40 voucher. Then I’ll go back to Waitrose and Aldi for my actual shopping.

      • Brian says:

Yes indeed. I find that Sainsbury’s give me Nectar point coupons and offers that equate to a rebate of about 10-15% on my shopping. Clubcard can’t match that – you’d have to value your Avios at about 3-5p each. But I do buy a lot of gift cards and tend to throw in some grocery items too. I won’t bother going to Tesco if there is no replacement offer for gift cards – it simply won’t make sense for me.

        • harry says:

the absolute only reasons I go to Tesco are giftcards/ money off coupons/ pick up Direct order & buy some milk at the same time

        • Alan says:

Also depend on pricing in your stores – there’s a Tesco near me so I shop at them a fair bit, whenever I’ve been to Sainsbury’s I’ve been surprised at how much more expensive they are in comparison, so I’d need to be getting a reasonable discount to bring them into parity.
