Earn 3+ Virgin Flying Club miles per £1 with chauffeur service myDriver

Virgin Flying Club launched a new partnership with chauffeur firm myDriver in April. I didn’t mention it then but a reader recently gave me a nudge and – because of the decent earning rate – I thought I would cover it today.

myDriver is a pan-European chauffeur service owned by German car rental group Sixt. It specialises in airport transfers, although they are happy to take all jobs, and operates in almost 100 cities across Europe.

In the UK, you will find them in Birmingham, Brighton, Chester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Oxford as well as London.

All trips are in executive cars. Prices are fixed at the time of booking – which must be in advance – with cancellations accepted up to 1 hour before pick up.

You will earn 3 Virgin Flying Club miles for ever €1 you spend, converted from your £ bill for UK rides.

Pricing seems reasonable. The reader who contacted me paid £60 from Heathrow to Greenwich. A random quote from South Kensington to Heathrow, one way, gave prices from £50 (BMW 2-series) to £97 (Mercedes-Benz S-Class) which is comparable with Uber.

      Thanks Harry – very helpful. I’m just hoping I didn’t do the obvious and fail to put my VFC number in when I booked on the app. Unfortunately they don’t seem to hold the details on the west coast site unlike the east coast site, where your reward preference is stored on your account.

    Most – though I wouldn’t do it with gas / electricity as often get DD discount. I do it with council tax – just pay in one go to hit a sign up bonus.

      Yes, although my council does not accept paypoint (Only PAYZONE is accepted),
      it only charges flat £2 fees even say you are paying full £2k council tax in one go.
      Very useful for hitting signup bonus in one go for Visa/Mastercard.
      Wish they accepted Amex.

Simple Airport Transfers will take you to or from South Kensington for about £30 – it seems to vary according to the time – I’ve paid £34 and £27 to practically the same address. It has always been in a decent-sized Mercedes. They do NOT charge for waiting times at Heathrow and I’ve always been pleased with the service.

How can Uber get away with charging £50? I thought they were supposed to be cheap!

  Uber is £90 in a S-class Mercedes now. To be precise, £98.22 and £91.94 South Ken to T5 looking at my receipts.
  
  Uber isn’t meant to be cheap, Uber is meant to be convenient. UberX is ‘cheap’ but there isn’t really anything to compare it with unless you bung your neighbour £20 to drive you somewhere!

    UberX is fully licenced in the UK and therefore comparable to other local minicab firms. Based on my UberX receipts, you’d be looking at around £30 Heathrow to South Kensington so very similar to the prices quoted above.

        Uber is simply a minicab circuit but they charge their drivers commission per fare, as opposed to weekly rent. Many driver are on more than one circuit.

OT – Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.

Good news – I just received a second creit of 900 points for some reason!

Bad News – a total failure to transfer points to IHG or Marriott.

I get conflicting advice from Hertz CS – eg Marriott Rewards is not an option, when it is still on the pull down menu.

Anyone had success with this? And if so, what browser did you use? (I use Firefox. but with a number of security add-ons, and these seem to cause the Hertz site to hang.) I have tried Pale Moon, which appears to work, but no transfer takes place.. Hmm

I did a fare check

Near tooting broadway to Heathrow terminal 5

My Driver – 59 Pounds
Addison Lee – 41 pounds
Uber X – 37 pounds
Uber XL – 51 pounds

Its nice to have a better car, but I will most likely stick with Addison lee.
