No Tesco / Avios conversion bonus …. but a competition instead

The current Clubcard collection quarter ended on 21st July. Your vouchers will start to drop through your letterbox, or into your online account, very soon.

Anyone holding out for a ‘Tesco to Avios’ conversion bonus is going to be disappointed (again).

British Airways has dug up a very modest carrot to persuade you to convert your Tesco Clubcard vouchers to Avios via ba.com this quarter:

Who’d have thought your Tesco shop could send you on the holiday you’ve been dreaming of this summer? Well, from 1 – 31 August, Avios are giving away 1,000,000 points, as well as 10 prizes of 10,000 points – so you could be seeing a lot more of the world this summer.

Simply exchange a minimum of £5 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers into Avios throughout August, to be in with a chance of winning one of these great prizes.

And if you already choose to have your Tesco Clubcard vouchers exchanged to Avios, there’s no need to worry, you’ll be entered into the competition automatically.

It’s not hugely exciting, especially as the odds of winning are small. Entry is automatic, it seems, so at least you don’t have to go to any specific effort to enter.

Note that Northern Ireland residents will not be entered due to the odd competition entry rules enforced over there.

Avios.com may still launch a different promotion but it is highly unlikely that they would launch a bonus when British Airways did not.

Virgin Atlantic may run a bonus but, based on recent experience, if they do it will be something modest like 20%.

Did anyone else who used the Travel Zoo £25 Eurostar voucher for one way journeys have their bookings cancelled by Eurostar? They claimed it had to be redeemed by against a return booking. I checked Travel Zoo’s terms and conditions and it made no mention of that.

    I pretty much immediately rebooked as I couldn’t afford to miss travel at those times.
    When I doubled checked the Travel Zoo terms & conditions there was no requirement to redeem it against a return booking.
    
    Travel Zoo asked for screen shots of the T&C’s, the difference in price between my original bookings and my rebookings before they offer to refund more than just the cost of the vouchers. If they fob me off, I’ll go back to Eurostar, failing that I’ll tweet both of them publicly.
    
    Seems to me they meant to add in a clause about return bookings only, didn’t and now I’m paying for it.

  I ordered 2 vouchers, as I was looking at a weekend in Paris in August. But because you then had to redeem the codes to get the vouchers, which took more than the 24 hrs stated, the Eurostar sale finished before I got the activations through and I cancelled them. But what I saw said they had to be used for a return journey.

    When did you purchase? When I purchased (x1) on the 12th of July and (x2) on the 14th July, under what’s included, and what I can still see on the cached page is:

      I bought mine on 15 July. I thought I’d seen someone here say they were valid for single trips, which is why I bought 2. Then when I read the details, it said return trip. So it does look like they’ve added the bit about return trips. I was looking at the offer of £59 single in standard premium and thinking that £50 off a return would be a nice saving.
