British Airways has launched a ‘double Avios’ promotion covering both BA and American Airlines this Spring.
It is a decent deal and may even work for some leisure travellers as well as business travellers if they can pick up a bargain in the current BA sale:
you receive double Avios when you complete two long-haul return flights on BA or AA by 31st July (the list of qualifying routes is below)
you MUST register via this page at ba.com to take part – you cannot join as a new member in order to participate, oddly
flights must start in the UK or Ireland (ex-Europe bookings do not qualify)
your must have BOOKED your flight on or after 22nd April
you can fly in any cabin on any regular ticket type
you will receive the bonus on your first FOUR return trips
Here are the participating routes:
British Airways to: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York JFK, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tampa, Washington, Cancun, Mexico City, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Antigua, Bahamas (Nassau), Barbados, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Punta Cana, Granada, Kingston, Port of Spain, Providenciales, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, Tobago, Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo, Luanda, Cairo, Accra, Nairobi, Abuja, Lagos, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Mauritius, Maldives, Bahrain, Tehran, Amman, Kuwait, Beirut, Oman, Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Baku, Bangalore, Chennai/Madras, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Sydney, Beijing, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, Moscow
American Airlines to: Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York JFK, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Raleigh Durham
There is no reason not to sign up for this if you think there is a chance that you might complete two long-haul trips before the end of July. It makes sense to register now just in case rather than forget about it – 31st July is a long way ahead.
The registration page on ba.com is here. However, some people are having problems signing up. My wife got the bizarre message:
Thank you, Mrs Raffles, you are now registered for this offer.
Your registration has been unsuccessful, unfortunately you are not eligible for this offer.
Who knows if she is registered or not?!
I got this:
Thank you, Mr Raffles, you are now registered for this offer.
As you can see from the terms and conditions on the linked site, this offer is NOT targetted. As long as your BAEC account is based in the UK or Ireland, you should be OK – contact BA with a screenshot of the rejection page if you have problems.
