Yesterday I wrote about the rooms and facilities and today I am focusing on the culinary side. Restaurant and bar wise the InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel has, I think, got something for everyone.

The highlight is Le Pressoir D’Argent Gordon Ramsey which opened in September 2015. Just four months after opening, it was awarded a Michelin star, only the third Gordon Ramsey restaurant to currently hold one. The restaurant is closed for lunch and all day on Sundays and Mondays, which is why I had to use a press picture:

I had lunch at the Brasserie Le Bordeaux which has a broad menu including oysters, salads and steak. It also has a great mini dessert selection including Bordeaux’s famous mini cake canelé.

There is also a ‘proper English’ and the option of having the chef cook the egg dishes of your choice. My eggs florentine was very good.

The Orangery in the conservatory is a bright and airy bar with its own food and drink menu:

During the summer the roof top turns into the Night Beach which is apparently a popular evening destination for both hotel guests and local residents. As it wasn’t even Spring yet, I only got to enjoy the view over Bordeaux without cocktails or tapas in hand.

There is also a jacuzzi on the rooftop and despite the fact it was cold, I had to give it a try …. I may have been less keen if the bar was open.

Conclusion

The InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel is a beautiful luxury hotel in the heart of a lovely city. I loved how the history of the building is dominating the hotel’s interior design. You almost get the impression of having gone back in time straight into the 18th century but having taken all the technological advantages of our century with you.

The rooms are gorgeous, the spa a perfect place to relax and the staff friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it for a long weekend away. British Airways has direct flights from Gatwick with Club Europe fares starting at £220 return according to BA’s low fare finder. Euro Traveller starts at £88.

If you want to redeem IHG Rewards Club points, the InterContinental will cost you 40,000 points per night. Given that you will be lucky to find a Summer weekend at under €280 per night, this is an excellent value redemption which would get you far more value than Rob’s current 0.4p per point valuation.

You may also want to consider paying to join the InterContinental Ambassador scheme as you will receive a voucher for a free weekend night (technically buy one, get one free) at any InterContinental with your membership kit.
