Bits: Tesco capping Clubcard accounts at 30000 points, Tesco wine deals ending

  One of my sons moved out last recently and got his own Clubcard account. He put everything through it for his new place and with change from vouchers etc he was at the limit. In December he bought a Dyson with 5000 extra points. This took him over by 4900 and they were taken off him just before the end of the quarter. He phoned Clubcard and the first 2 people he spoke to hadn’t heard of the 30000 cap!! He explained about the change for vouchers and extra points for dyson and they agreed since he was new she would try and put the lost points back on but they have written to him pointing out the cap in the t n c and that the lost points won’t be returned.

    I had a similar scenario regarding a joint account in the August quarter, when I had been advised by someone, at Clubcard, that my wife and my club cards accounts were allowed 30k each. The previous quarter we had got all our points, although had only gone over 30k by 5000 pts in the May quarter and received all our points. As pay.coms were around in good supply I got pretty close to 60k and they capped both accounts at 30k between them. I could refer them to the time, day and person who had informed me about the 60k limit. They checked and refunded the points for money, not clubcard vouchers. I didn’t follow it up because I had separated the accounts and they were pretty full by the time I received the money card.
    The 2 quarters since have been very good especially with the cake mag coupons, although my local store weren’t too happy about the amounts I was buying and possibly because I copied some coupons before they arrived at the store. I did get a CS manager to authorise the copies to be used though. I suspect that got lost when they balanced the tills at the end of the day and saw some copies 🙁

  The cap caught lots by surprise this Q end. Some got gift cards as compensation for the value of the points dedicated and some didn’t, I have also read on another forum that someone didn’t get their points deducted?
  Moral of the story, spread your points over two cards as they will remove surplus points now as per their terms of the scheme.

  I received a little over 30k this quarter, mainly due to a refund of a large purchase using CC points during the double up promo – and the withdrawal of 3Vs. No points were removed and I was issued over £300 of vouchers.

  It’s fair enough for them to have a cap (their programme after all!) but I think it’s shocking that they’re counting the ‘change’ points towards this given customers have no say in the denomination of vouchers they’re issued with. They should code their IT to exclude these, even just giving Tesco gift cards is a poor result given the poor value of spending points in store.

    Especially when if you haven’t got a voucher divisible by £2.50( for airline programmes) you haven’t got a choice but to get change from your voucher.

  No sympathy with people who are simply abusing the system, with no care of the T&cs, I’m a keen collector but never anywhere near 30,000 points a quarter.

    It’s not abusing the system. There is nothing wrong with going over 30K, it is perfectly permissible. The only sanction is you might lose points over 30K.

    Abuse makes it sound like cheating, whereas it is nothing of the sort.

    It is merely enthusiastic points collecting and buying a lot more goods from Tesco than you would have done otherwise without the rewards incentive.

      Surely if you win then you need to have the amount over lopped off, by their ts and cs. They need to offer a bit more clarity, allow for refunds and competitions and change the cap in line with inflation too.

    I expect that the 50,000 points will actually be issued in the form of a gift card or will only allowed to be redeemed for tesco spend (as is the case for things like Christmas Saver).

    I seem to recall that when they did a competition a while ago to “win 1 million points” that the prize was actually Tesco gift cards to the value of £10k.
