500 Avios points for joining TopCashback for free, for one week only

TopCashback, if you are not yet a member, is running a new sign-up promotion – 500 Avios points.

The offer runs for just one week until next Sunday.

TopCashback, like Quidco, is a site which allows you to earn a small amount of cashback on your day to day shopping by clicking through to participating merchants.

What makes TopCashback better is that it has a feature allowing you to pay your cashback directly into your Tesco Clubcard account – and give you a 5% bonus on top.

This dramatically increased the value of TopCashback cashback versus Quidco:

£10 of cashback earned at Quidco earns you £10

£10 of cashback earned at TopCashback earns you £10.50 (with the 5% bonus) paid into your Tesco Clubcard account. That gives you 1,050 Clubcard points. These convert into 2,520 Avios points or 2,625 Virgin Flying Club miles. You are effectively ‘buying’ Avios points for just 0.4p each.

You can transfer up to £50 of cashback per year from TopCashback to Clubcard (a year runs from the date of your first Tesco transfer, not the calendar year or from the date you joined). This means that you can earn up to 12,000 Avios per year this way.

Once you have hit your £50 annual cap on transferring to Clubcard, you can transfer further cashback directly to Avios points.  For every £1 of cashback you earn, you will have the choice of taking £1 as cash into Paypal or your bank account or receiving 105 Avios points.

Why join now?

I have had a ‘refer a friend’ link to TopCashback on the site for a while, and I am grateful to everyone who used it. If you haven’t already joined up, there is now a generous incentive.

Until 10am on 31st January, if you join TopCashback via our refer-a-friend link, you will receive 500 Avios points when you have earned £10 of cashback. You must use a refer-a-friend link or you will not receive the bonus.

This offer is not as generous as the recent offers which gave 500 Tesco Clubcard points as a bonus.  If you join now you are assuming that a Clubcard offer will not be coming along in the near future.

Getting your bonus

There is no time limit on how long you have to earn your £10 cashback – a month, three months, six months, whatever.

Note that your 500 Avios points are not deposited directly into your Avios account. Once you have earned £10 cashback, TopCashback will put £5 in your TopCashback account. However, you can only withdraw this £5 to your British Airways Executive Club or avios.com account.

The only condition is that you join via a refer-a-friend link. If you sign up directly on the TopCashback site, you will not receive your 500 Avios points.

What next?

If you are not already a TopCashback member, you should open a TopCashback account now and use it for your day-to-day online shopping instead of Quidco.

There are two membership levels at TopCashback – a free version and a £5 annual fee version. The £5 level pays slightly higher cashback and has improved customer service if you have any problems. However, you will receive the 500 Avios points whichever level you choose. To be honest, I would start at the free level and only upgrade when you have decided that you like the site.

When you click through to join, you will probably not see this offer advertised. Don’t worry – all ‘refer a friend’ applications made before midnight on Sunday 31st January will receive the 500 Avios points.

I thought they’d stopped the 5% bonus on clubcard points – or has it restarted?

  • scottiebhoy says:

I transferred £3 yesterday just to activate my yearly anniversary date as early as possible and didn’t get the bonus. I did notive there was a 5% bonus on BAEC and Avios transfers though. Given it was such a small amount I thought it worth it to activate my yearly transfer anniversary with Tesco CC.

  • Brian says:

There’s a difference between the 5% extra you earn for being a Premium member and the 5% bonus on what you have already earned that you used to get for cashing out via Clubcard. The former is still ongoing, the latter has stopped.
