6,105 Avios for £44 – and a FREE colour printer

Tesco Direct is running another printer offer which, amazingly, is an even better deal than the one which ran a couple of weeks ago.

Tesco Direct is currently offering 2,500 bonus Clubcard points when you buy a HP Envy 4504 wireless colour inkjet printer.

The price is £44. ‘Click and Collect’ delivery is FREE otherwise you will pay £3 for standard delivery to your door.

At the time of writing, it is out of stock. However, it was coming and going throughout Saturday so I would keep checking back over the next few days.

Let me explain how silly this deal is.

You do not need to spend a penny to take advantage of this.

At the moment, you can get double the face value of your Clubcard points when you spend them at Tesco Direct. This is what you do:

You buy the printer for £44 and pay using 2,200 Clubcard points (assuming you have £22 of vouchers in your account)

You receive 2,544 points for buying the printer

You have earned 344 Clubcard points and got yourself a printer – FOR FREE.

However, let’s assume that you want to earn some cheap Avios points via this deal instead. I’ll assume that you take the printer and throw it in the nearest dustbin (or, preferably, give it your local charity shop).

You will earn a total of 2,544 Clubcard points for the purchase. This will get you 6,105 Avios points or 6,360 Virgin Flying Club miles.

That works out at 0.72p per Avios point or 0.69p per Virgin Flying Club mile.

If you are prepared to put in some time, of course, you can get this price down by selling your printer via eBay.

Let’s assume that you are left with just £10 after eBay fees and postage in a worse case scenario. That takes your cost down to £34. That would work out at 0.55p per Avios point or 0.53p per Virgin mile.

Remember that Tesco takes a dim view of bulk buying. If you buy more than one through the same Clubcard account, you are at serious risk of not getting the points. HFP readers have been caught out by this many times in the past. The deal does not appear to be available in-store.

To be honest, you will need to be lucky to nab one of these. However, as the offer does not close until Thursday, there is plenty of time. The link is here.

Yes if you are lucky enough to get one as deliveries are being delayed due to Black Friday by 5-7 days. Also you have up to 2 weeks after delivery to stores to pick it up.

Great tips, but it’s not great form to suggest buying a product that has taken resources and work to produce, for the sole purpose of throwing it in a dustbin.

People should at the very least give this to somebody who can use it, or ensure it goes to a recycling site.

Ebay is not a good route for this one, try local facebook sale pages of gumtree etc. The delivery delays have been going on since for nearly a month now, their latest excuse is black friday.

  In terms of giving it away, a local Freecycle group is likely a good bet – and if you’re willing to take a moment to read the replies it’s normally pretty easy to work out the genuine requests from the resellers.

    I gave up on Freecycle and went back to eBay (whilst not caring what an item gets). Someone who has paid, even a nominal sum, is far far more to turn up and collect.

I managed to get one last night, it was showing as in stock and then when I went to check out my basket it removed it and said there wasn’t enough stock (I was only trying to buy one). That happened a few times and then I managed to get one.
