New American Express statement credit deals launched

A batch of new ‘statement credit’ offers appeared on my American Express online account yesterday.

If you have a Gold, Platinum, BA, SPG, Nectar or other Amex-issued Amex card, you should have a look and register for any of those which interest you. Most have a cap on the number of participants.

You will find the offers on the online statement summary pages down at the bottom.

Not targetted? Don’t panic. In time, I would expect these offers to appear on the cardmemberoffers.co.uk site where any Amex-issued Amex card can be registered – some are already there.

Got a Lloyds, MBNA etc Amex? You can register at the Amex Connect site. Most of these offers are already showing there.

This is what has appeared across my cards:

Gap – spend £70, get £10 back

11,000 cards only / ends 21st December

House of Fraser – spend £100, get £10 back

18,000 cards only / ends 21st December

The Outnet – spend £250, get £50 back

25,000 cards only / ends 31st December

Heals – spend £100, get £10 back

The house of fraser offer is getting watered down every time. It started out at £10 off £50. It used to be interesting but not any more

I’m pretty underwhelmed by this latest batch of offers. There is nothing that would make me go out of my way to spend money in any of these retailers. If I was planning to spend some money with one of them already I would happily take the discount. The £10 off £50 at HoF and others, was in my mind worth buying some gift vouchers for use in the future on as yet undecided purchases. As ever each to their own!!

Do Lidl accept Amex? Aldi don’t (not long started taking credit cards at all!) but not sure about Lidl as don’t go there often.

  No, your only option to get points is an Amex + partner Visa/ MC card, I meant to type BMI Amex, the old issue cards are generous on the Visa points (long may it last!)

  No Amex is not accepted, they only started with credit cards recently maybe a year or two ago.
  
  I don’t get a chance to go to Lidl much either, my valet goes incognito!! In all seriousness they are leaps and bounds over what they used to be it terms everything; I believe their products are massively denting the profits of the more affluent food distributor. I remember in Germany in the early 1990s I wasn’t sure when I was (sorry my valet) in Aldi/Lidl whether I was at a flee market or a food bank.

Not quite.
If you take the simple example of a £100 top line purchase, you will get 20% off for he voucher so the amount subject to the 15% and 2% discounts will be £80 not 100.
So total discount is 20% of £100 + 17% of £80 = £33.60 so 33.6% discount in total.
