In another ‘I never thought they’d do that, but it might be worth a go’ moment, British Airways has announced a new route to Bergerac in France – from London City.

The service will start on 5th May and operate over the Summer only.  It will operate with a mix of Embraer 190, Embraer 170 and Saab 2000 aircraft.

Bergerac

The timings are pretty random:

Departures:

Monday and Thursday 11.15 – 13.50

Friday 09.30 – 12.15

Sunday 17.10 – 19.45

Return:

Monday and Thursday 14.25 – 15.00

Friday 13.00 – 13.45

Sunday 20.25 – 21.00

A fourth weekly service will be added over the peak Summer months.

There is little point in booking Club Europe on this route, given the lack of a lounge at London City and the fact that seating is 2 x 2 across the entire aircraft.

Cash and Avios tickets are already bookable at ba.com.  Availability seems to be restricted to two economy and two business class seats per flight.  As usual with new routes, Avios availability is excellent.  At the time of writing, the August bank holiday weekend was available, for example – albeit I expect a HfP reader to have snaffled that by 7am ….

I think the weekend flight is on Sunday (day 7) rather than Saturday. Makes the departure times slightly less random as you can do a long weekend, returning Sunday night.

    • RK says:

I was going to say…I don’t think those times are allowed from City on a Saturday. Was confusing me..

  • Polly says:

Yes, def aimed at those city workers for their long weekends, great news for them. But NO lounge at BERG either. Pretty coffee shop with sofas to lounge around on outside, but like a big barn inside once you check in….nothing but a machine to buy from. Sadly we always go early Sept so Ryan Air it is for us. So NOT worth club prices.

  • Andy says:

Going on the Sabb from Dusseldorf to LCY in December, it’s 2 by 1 seating.

    • The_Real_A says:

I enjoyed the Saab recently, a little like a sports car aircraft :). One thing to note is that only one cabin bag seems to fit per row. Get on early.

  • Danksy says:

Haha, love the picture that accompanies this post 😀 Sadly, no use to me 🙁

  • Steve says:

Or just use Flybe from Southampton who fly at least daily in the summer….

I had a really disappointing club europe flight from city yesterday. (for an ex dub, Heathrow to lax flight) the breakfast was served very slowly. I was only offered a drink once. And the purser was in the back helping economy most of the time. I did meet Jenson button tho on the transit in t5 , walked chatting with him right up to the point we boared the same flight. Although I went upstairs for my club seat and he went downstairs to first. Nice guy

The world is full of disappointments these days rich….

    • Brian says:

No doubt Button had also booked an ex-EU flight from Dublin..

I flew Club Europe from Berlin at the weekend and was also only offered one drink – but you have a call button above your seat!
