British Airways has brought back its special offer on ‘part pay with Avios’ until 19th October.

As you see on the ‘Part Pay With Avios’ page at ba.com, there are substantial savings to be made at the moment if you use ‘part pay’ for a Club World or First booking.

If:

you are flying to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Bangkok, Beijing, Bengaluru, Chengdu Shuangliu, Chicago, Dallas – Forth Worth, Delhi Indira Ghandi International, Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, Hyderabad, JFK, Kuala Lumpur International, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Montreal, Mumbai, Newark, Philadelphia International, San Francisco International, Seoul, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore Changi, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington

you can redeem Avios points for the following discounts:

Yes, just 9,607 DKK return in Club World. That is £964!

However, let’s move down the page. As you can below, I can save 5,035 DKK by redeeming 30,000 Avios points.

This means that the final cost of my Club World return flight is just 4,572 DKK – or £459.

Yes, I’ve had to spend 30,000 Avios points as well. Yes, I need to make my way to Copenhagen to start my trip. However, for comparison, the cheapest BA economy ticket on the same day costs over £1,000 at the moment ….

Have booked CPH/SFO/CPH all in Club for £750 pp r.t. end-March. Of the 60k Avios used, we’ll get 56k Avios back (one Gold and one Silver card holder).

Sorry, you can’t use Avios as part payment for these flights.

It’s worth pointing out that you can buy the 30k Avios needed for the example given above for £415 over at avios.com (25k + 5k bonus). You’re buying at 1.38p per Avios.

I’m now dithering! If I do this I need to commit and transfer Tesco vouchers/Amex points today so that the Avios will come through in time to book, but there’s a chance the fares will go and then I’m stuck with Avios when my other best option is Virgin.

Also, it’ll cost me more in cash than Virgin UC, because I have £200 worth of Virgin vouchers I can use towards the taxes and fees. On the other hand, going with Virgin means clearing my entire points stash out and starting collecting again from scratch, whereas this would mean I’d still have a healthy Avios balance to work with.

But then again, I’d like to try out Virgin Upper Class, and this is undeniably more of a faff.

I can see the 30000 avios for 5035 DKK when I use JFK as a target, but when I try with LAS I get only much less (11250 for 753 DKK) offered. Any idea why ?
