Yes, you can fly Club World to New York for £450 return.  Let me explain ….

British Airways has brought back its special offer on ‘part pay with Avios’ until 19th October.

As you see on the ‘Part Pay With Avios’ page at ba.com, there are substantial savings to be made at the moment if you use ‘part pay’ for a Club World or First booking.

If:

you are flying to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Bangkok, Beijing, Bengaluru, Chengdu Shuangliu, Chicago, Dallas – Forth Worth, Delhi Indira Ghandi International, Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, Hyderabad, JFK, Kuala Lumpur International, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Montreal, Mumbai, Newark, Philadelphia International, San Francisco International, Seoul, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore Changi, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington

and

you book by 19th October

and

you book in Club World or First

you can redeem Avios points for the following discounts:

1,500 Avios – £25

4,500 Avios – £75

11,250 Avios – £190

15,000 Avios – £250

30,000 Avios – £500

That is an exceptionally generous 1.66p per Avios point.

Now, here is is the interesting bit.  These offer is available for flights starting in Europe, not just in the UK.

Blatantly borrowing an example highlighted at Flyertalk, here is a great deal available from Copenhagen for flights to New York next Summer:

rsz_copenhagen

Yes, just 9,607 DKK return in Club World.  That is £964!

However, let’s move down the page.  As you can below, I can save 5,035 DKK by redeeming 30,000 Avios points.
rsz_copenhagen_2

This means that the final cost of my Club World return flight is just 4,572 DKK – or £459.

Yes, I’ve had to spend 30,000 Avios points as well.  Yes, I need to make my way to Copenhagen to start my trip.  However, for comparison, the cheapest BA economy ticket on the same day costs over £1,000 at the moment ….

You can learn more about ‘Part Pay With Avios’ at ba.com.

PS.  This deal also works out of Dublin and other places.  For April, for example, Dublin to New York is €1,533 but you save €672 by redeeming 30,000 Avios.  That is a net cost of only €861.  You need to play around with ba.com.

Just made my first booking from info from this site – so many thanks Rob!
Have booked CPH/SFO/CPH all in Club for £750 pp r.t. end-March. Of the 60k Avios used, we’ll get 56k Avios back (one Gold and one Silver card holder).
    Happy days!

  • Ant says:

first time I am trying to do this. But when I put in Dublin to Chicago in August in the part pay with avios I am getting

Sorry, you can’t use Avios as part payment for these flights.
anyone else getting this? Anyone knows the reason

    thanks

    • Answer says:

Are you exceeding 1 month? Or is the return journey through a different city?

      • Ant says:

10 day trips. I was trying to do multi city but it doesn’t seem possible. can someone confirm? And does it have to be BA metal?

        Thanks

    • simmo says:

Also if the DUB-LHR could be on Aer Lingus

  • jameslon says:

It’s worth pointing out that you can buy the 30k Avios needed for the example given above for £415 over at avios.com (25k + 5k bonus). You’re buying at 1.38p per Avios.

  • Kathy says:

I’m now dithering! If I do this I need to commit and transfer Tesco vouchers/Amex points today so that the Avios will come through in time to book, but there’s a chance the fares will go and then I’m stuck with Avios when my other best option is Virgin.

Also, it’ll cost me more in cash than Virgin UC, because I have £200 worth of Virgin vouchers I can use towards the taxes and fees. On the other hand, going with Virgin means clearing my entire points stash out and starting collecting again from scratch, whereas this would mean I’d still have a healthy Avios balance to work with.

But then again, I’d like to try out Virgin Upper Class, and this is undeniably more of a faff.

    Decisions, decisions!

  • JamesW says:

Does this work for one way redemptions too ? (with 15,000 Avios) ? Making a one-way available around the £250 mark ?

  • Holger says:

I can see the 30000 avios for 5035 DKK when I use JFK as a target, but when I try with LAS I get only much less (11250 for 753 DKK) offered. Any idea why ?

    • LS says:

I tried that too and I think it’s because some of the LAS flights are through LGW. The offer is only through LHR or LCY.

      • Holger says:

Thought so also, but it does not change when I go via LHR instead. Strange.

      • Sussex Bantam says:

I’m trying LAS too – but LHR to LAS and return – still only get offered £200 off for my 30K Avios….

        • Ant says:

Been trying all afternoon but LAS doesn’t seem to work. I have tried various options including all on BA metal and from LHR but nothing

  • Nathan says:

Where’s the best place to fly to Bangkok? At the moment in planning on booking the Royal Jordanian business class there for Feb but this may be a better deal?

    • Rob says:

Look up my article on ITA Matrix – it lets you check prices from 20-odd different European cities, flying BA, to one place, at once.

  • jameslon says:

@Sussex Bantam: the promotion has not been implemented correctly and LAS has been missed off the list. Should be fixed tomorrow. Also, ex-EU may be fixec too, as that’s definately not part of the promotion! (ex-London only).

    • Mick says:

can anyone see availability for Hong Kong In August ?? I’m out in a boat working and can only use an I phone … Not good when trying different date ranges !!!

      • Mick says:

I can actually do Hong Kong, Bangkok or Singapore , in that order … Frustration!!

    • Kathy says:

Oh, now I really don’t know what to do, if the ex-eu deals might disappeare over night!!
