Yes, you can fly Club World to New York for £450 return.  Let me explain ….

British Airways has brought back its special offer on ‘part pay with Avios’ until 19th October.

As you see on the ‘Part Pay With Avios’ page at ba.com, there are substantial savings to be made at the moment if you use ‘part pay’ for a Club World or First booking.

If:

you are flying to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Bangkok, Beijing, Bengaluru, Chengdu Shuangliu, Chicago, Dallas – Forth Worth, Delhi Indira Ghandi International, Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, Hyderabad, JFK, Kuala Lumpur International, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Montreal, Mumbai, Newark, Philadelphia International, San Francisco International, Seoul, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore Changi, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington

and

you book by 19th October

and

you book in Club World or First

you can redeem Avios points for the following discounts:

1,500 Avios – £25

4,500 Avios – £75

11,250 Avios – £190

15,000 Avios – £250

30,000 Avios – £500

That is an exceptionally generous 1.66p per Avios point.

Now, here is is the interesting bit.  These offer is available for flights starting in Europe, not just in the UK.

Blatantly borrowing an example highlighted at Flyertalk, here is a great deal available from Copenhagen for flights to New York next Summer:

rsz_copenhagen

Yes, just 9,607 DKK return in Club World.  That is £964!

However, let’s move down the page.  As you can below, I can save 5,035 DKK by redeeming 30,000 Avios points.
rsz_copenhagen_2

This means that the final cost of my Club World return flight is just 4,572 DKK – or £459.

Yes, I’ve had to spend 30,000 Avios points as well.  Yes, I need to make my way to Copenhagen to start my trip.  However, for comparison, the cheapest BA economy ticket on the same day costs over £1,000 at the moment ….

You can learn more about ‘Part Pay With Avios’ at ba.com.

PS.  This deal also works out of Dublin and other places.  For April, for example, Dublin to New York is €1,533 but you save €672 by redeeming 30,000 Avios.  That is a net cost of only €861.  You need to play around with ba.com.

Which are common starting airports, can see Dublin and Copenhagen but wouldn’t mind a weekend somewhere different. Any flights starting from Zurich – I’m surprised they wouldn’t want compete with Swiss?

    • Majunga says:

The cheapest options seems to be from DUB/CPH/ARN where a return to LAX/SFO prices at GBP1,350 before the 30k/500 discount. I tried to price these from PAR/FCO/MAD/LIS but they were notably more expensive. The ITA Matrix (explained by Raffles in a previous post) is very helpful for these iterations.

Just took the plunge and booked Dublin to San Francisco next August for net cost of about £850 plus 30,000 avios. With flights both ways in A380 Club World this is an excellent deal especially with earning 21,000 avios back as bronze card holder.

Many thanks to Raffles and all the helpful commenters above.

  • PJR says:

Many thanks. Booked a family of 4 Copenhagen to LAX in CW during next summer holidays for 27,000 DKK. Brilliant. Struggling with flights to Copenhagen ex Manchester at the moment – probably too many people going to Copenhagen just to fly out again!

    • Maria says:

      Same!
Trying to get my ticket to Copenhagen is proving a bit of a nightmare…was hoping to use Avios. If i can’t i will just book with another carrier. Really good deal still, even if i end up paying another £100 on top.

  • Rick says:
