Tesco has launched two new promotions offering bonus Clubcard points which would convert into a decent chunk of Avios points or Virgin Flying Club miles.

500 Clubcard points for spending £60 at Tesco Wine

Via a new moneysavingexpert.com code, you will receive 500 Clubcard points when you spend £60 at Tesco Wine. 500 Clubcard points is worth 1,200 Avios or 1,250 Virgin Flying Club miles. This offer is open to everyone, whether or not you are an existing Tesco Wine customer.

The discount code you need is XXPPGG. You must spend £60 and place your order by Sunday 11th October. The code will work a maximum of 3,500 times.

Delivery is free if you spend over £50, which you will be. The code works OK even if you order some of their discounted cases.

250 Clubcard points with Google Chromecast

Tesco Direct has launched a promotion with the 2nd generation (with a new round shape) Google Chromecast – see here.

This is a device which plugs into your TV’s HDMI socket and allows you to send selected content from your laptop, phone or tablet to your screen. It is especially useful if you are a Netflix subscriber as it is an easy wire-free way to get your Netflix content onto your TV.

You don’t usually see these discounted, so getting 600 Avios or 625 Virgin Flying Club miles for your £30 spend is a decent deal.

      They never seem to hit their caps. They are not stupid – they don’t want to lose any orders. If they expect 3,000 orders, tney set a cap of 3,500 to make it seem urgent that you order, but Tesco still maximises the money they take in.

Not sure about the ‘etc’ – the only other mainstream service it runs is iPlayer (I don’t count NowTV!) – although it is more useful with an Android phone, which I don’t have, as you can stream anything from inside your browser.

Why ITV Player refuses to join I don’t know.

  Hmm, might be useful for my parents. They used to be able to get Youtube and iplayer through their TV, but then Samsung updated the software to discontinue the service. Mind you, having to get the stuff up on the computer before streaming it to their TV might be a bit faffy for them.

    I’ve got a Chromecast with a three month free trial of Now TV and can confirm it is useless – with the possible exception of Sky Atlantic if you’re into Sky Atlantic’s brand of quality US stuff.

  This is the second 500 points recently, Raffles pointed out the last one. Maybe Tesco’s huge drop in profits have something to do with it. I don’t think an individual protest will be noticed, I’m fairly sure all the codes will be used, so you just miss out on the offer (which is your choice of course!)

  Tesco didn’t credit me for points buying gift cards online back in May. After a lot of hassle it turns out it was a system fault that I’ve been advised will be corrected before November payout. It’s affected many people so perhaps other people on HfP. Just to advise what they’ve told me…

    Tesco seems to be drying up (some say forever) but you can get them in Morrisons very easily. Why? £100 of pay.coms gives you 10p off per litre of petrol. You can use as many as you like when filling up. So £1000 of pay.coms = £60 off when you fill up with 60 litres (max 100 litres if you have a lorry or some jerrycans lol). Broadly similar to Tesco, where £1000 = 3000 TCC points = 7200 Avios (+ your MRs).

        Just similar in monetary value terms, with Avios generally reckoned to be worth anywhere between 0.65p-1p, Morrisons petrol saving (cash) is very similar to the value of Tesco—>Avios for the same £1000 of pay.coms.
        
        Morrisons availability of pay.coms? I’m in the South West and they’re everywhere, maybe it’s our local cards rep or something – or maybe further upcountry people have cottoned onto the free tank of petrol opportunity.

  My gut feeling was that BA stopped conversion bonuses because they knew a devaluation was coming and didn’t want to be accused of encouraging transfers under false pretences. Doesn’t explain why it has been quiet since April though ….

I have not placed an order for wine since 22nd September using a code, how could it be the same one if it is a new code ?

I just tried to order some wine from the computer in a hotel in Nova Scotia.
It refused to open the page because it was selling alcohol!!
Probably because alcohol is sold in provincial government shops here, which are very good.
