Club Carlson 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 rates – a great deal for Gold members

It is a while since I have written about the Club Carlson ‘two for one’ and ‘four for two’ deals that are offered to Club Carlson Gold members. This is for stays at Radisson, Park Inn and Park Plaza properties.

This is especially poor of me, because Club Carlson Gold is a benefit of the American Express Platinum card which a lot of Head for Points readers hold. I will make up for that today.

The 2-4-1 deal works like this:

Pay for Thursday night, get Friday night FREE

Pay for Friday night, get Saturday night FREE

The 4-4-2 deal works like this:

Pay for Wednesday and Thursday, get Friday and Saturday FREE

Pay for Thursday and Friday, get Saturday and Sunday FREE

It is a pretty idiot-proof deal. You need to book through the special links on the Club Carlson website, which can be found here for the 241 and here for the 442.

It is only valid for hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. One Gold member can book up to 2 rooms, so it also works OK if you need a 2nd room for family or friends.

Not all hotels offer this, and availability varies depending on how busy they are. I used it once, in Riga, with an excellent result. Not only did I get two nights for the price of one, but the hotel upgraded me to a Business Class room because of my Gold card. This meant I got free mini-bar, free pay TV and free breakfast as well! I think my total bill was around £40.

As a quick experiment, I did a search for Berlin in late January 2016 which is low season (the Radisson Blu in Berlin is pictured above – yes, that is a massive aquarium in the lobby):

5 of the 8 properties offered me a free Saturday when I bought Friday
5 of the 8 offered a free Friday when I paid for Thursday
4 of the 8 offered Friday and Saturday for free when you paid for Wednesday and Thursday
4 of the 8 offered a free Saturday and Sunday when you paid for Thursday and Friday.

Whilst you will definitely not find such good availability everywhere, the rates are there if you want them although you may need to book a few months ahead.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (December 2021)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards. These include:

American Express Preferred Rewards Gold (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 20,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 60,000 Radisson Rewards points. This card is FREE for your first year and also comes with two free airport lounge passes.

The Platinum Card from American Express (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 30,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 90,000 Radisson Rewards points

American Express Rewards credit card (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 5,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 15,000 Radisson Rewards points. This card is FREE for life.

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate. The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Gold status for as long as they hold the card. It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status. We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Don’t these rates include breakfast anyway? I have used this deal three times so far and it has always included breakfast, upgrade or not.

It is worth mentioning that Club Carlson are quite generous with status matches. My wife previously had Gold through the PRG offer a while back. This had expired, so I emailed a scan of my Accor Platinum card a couple of weeks ago, and I have been given Gold until the end of Feb 2017. Off to Sweden shortly with a nice saving.

I love it but careful, i have always been upgraded to an executive room for the two rooms i booked but depending on the hotel it is not always free breakfast and free minibar!!
I had to pay in Parkinn for example
And no mention in Radisson re free minibar!!

  The rate details will tell you if you get breakfast. I did in Oslo, Riga and Malmo. All Radisson Blu though not Park Inn. I got the upgraded room each time but not the room service breakfast advertised for business rooms, just the standard as per the rate.

Also works for silver status members (at least for me although I was once gold).

Although the booking conditions state you will need to show your gold card at check-in nobody has asked for this.

The rates are that good they even make the hotel staff envious as it beats their staff discount!

Just tried the Park Inn, Belfast 8th Jan for 2 nights.

1st night £79
2nd night £0 (was £99)
Total £143.32

There’s a whopping £64.32 of “Estimated Additional Fees” – yet I can’t see anywhere what they are, even when I open up the full rate details. Any ideas?

If I don’t login as gold member & just select the 2 nights in the same hotel, not on the offer, guess what – the price is £142.40 on their advance purchase rate. I smell a rat!

  Booking the Belfast Radisson Blu for the same nights does have the second night free, £97 for the 2 nights. I have used the 241 quite a few times and have not seen Estimated Additional Fees at this level before. I would ring IHG or the hotel direct for an explanation.

Availability in London is non-existent…. Was looking yesterday for a weekend in Dec and there is nothing…. Even with the F&F…. I also brought up the availability calendars up and there is nothing upto February either.

  I am seeing some availability in Jan, for example Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, Park Plaza Riverbank and Plaza on the River are available 8th to 10th, And the week after. But I agree, it’s not great in the capital. Unless you count Thurrock!

Slightly off topic -I cancelled Platinum in early June, took out a Gold and just got 20,000 bonus points can I get an upgrade bonus to Platinum now or would I need to wait until early December?

    Really? I was kind of surprised to get points on the Gold having only got rid of Platinum in June. I thought I’d seen posts on FT about upgrading Gold to Platinum for extra bonus points unless it’s changed…. pity Platinum so much I like the lounge access but don’t travel enough and already have medical cover at work.

      Amex IT can be ropey but you can’t seriously expect me to encourage hundreds of people to do something just because it (mistakenly?) worked for a couple!
      
      I would encourage someone to buy a newspaper in Tesco if it was mistakenly giving out Clubcard points. I am not going to encourage someone to take out a charge card with a £450 annual fee and associted credit file hits etc just because some people got a bonus they were not expecting.
      
      You CAN upgrade from Gold to Plat and get a 15k bonus – the link is advertised on the HFP ‘Avios Promos’ page.

        Sorry getting a bonus was a plus (not sure what couple ref was about) I wouldn’t expect a bonus for upgrading to Platinum to be honest and if I did it would be a plus and of course anyone taking a card out does so of their own free will. I might try the link thanks for that can always cancel later anyway.
