£1,000 Club World BA flights to Hong Kong are back

They’re back! It is not clear why British Airways is doing this – perhaps to match fares from the Middle East airlines. I’m not sure what other explanation there can be for this astonishing fare to Hong Kong which is currently available from all British Airways departure points in Germany.

This is NOT a fare mistake. It is a published fare with detailed fare rules.

For the next week, British Airways is selling return Club World tickets to Hong Kong from Germany for roughly £695 plus taxes and surcharges.

There are NO advance purchase requirements – you can fly tomorrow if you want. The only rule is that you stay away for a Saturday night.

You do NOT need to fly directly to Hong Kong. You can also fly from Germany to London to Singapore, Shanghai, Bangkok, Chengdu, Beijing or Kuala Lumpur, and then connect to Hong Kong using another oneworld airline.

Free stopovers are allowed, although APD will be added if you stay more than 24 hours in the UK.

You can start from any German airport served by BA.

If you try to book this ticket on ba.com it will price at around €1,403 depending on routing.

Last time this offer ran, you could get it even cheaper by booking it via Expedia. This is NOT the case this time – the cheapest fare is on ba.com.

Here is the interesting bit ….

Tickets must be booked by July 17th and you must start your trip before August 16th. However, you only need to fly from Germany to London by August 16th – if you don’t mind paying the Air Passenger Duty (another £150 or so) then you can have a stopover in the UK of up to 11 months if you want!

  BA takes a dim view of ‘nesting’ tickets, although technically you are not doing that. You might want to consider making the bookings and keeping your BAEC number out of them until you take the long-haul leg. You’d lose the tier points for Germany to London outbound but it may be a worthwhile trade off.

Doesn’t look like your stopover can be too far in advance….Have a First redemption next April and the cash ticket mentioned above in CW was priced similar to what was being quoted directly from LHR

Can I say book the GER-LON leg before 16/08/2015 then pay to have the date changed to a later time? I won’t be available to do this leg by the travel date as I am in HKG already.

  Here is the problem. When you make a change, THE TICKET REPRICES. If these £1,000 tickets are not still available on the day you make the change (and they won’t be after the 17th) it will reprice at £3,000+.

    Little known though that provided you already flew the outward or maybe even one flight on the ticket, if you are within the rules for changing and pay whatever fee, the ticket is repriced based on the original fare. I think it works this way with most airlines. Would love it if someone who really knows this stuff could confirm.

We just did the first leg of our MUC-LHR-HKG. The LHR-HKG return is next February/March. Now trying to think of a reason to do it again!

Thanks Raffles, we are going to Beijing, CW on a 241 and then on to Hong Kong using Avios too, then return via Beijing at the end of August.
Could I do a stopover in London and a five day stopover in Beijing?
In other words, are multiple stopovers allowed?
I would then recover my 241 and about 200,000 Avios for the price differential…would you do that?

  Fare rules would allow that. If you cannot get it to price, email Propeller and they can do it for a £30 fee (see under Bookings tab in the HFP menu).
  
  Only you know if a) you can reuse the 241 in time and b) what benefit the tier points from a cash booking are.

Can you connect through anywhere that’s >2000 miles from Hong Kong? (Other than London!) If you could manage two long legs, then it starts to get into TP-run territory..

  Reading the blog, I think the end point has to be HKG, bit via some of those other places he mentioned. We always use our BA F 241 to HKG as a jump off, using CX for bali on avios though, as their Y flts are v expensive. And Cx avios to wherever we want to go.
