Unfortunately haven’t had the best experience with hotel tonight, needed a hotel Last night at Stanstead booked via the app (holiday inn), turned up at the hotel and was told the website (app) had made an error and there were no more rooms left.
Ended up going to another hotel nearly double the price due to just needing a room.

  I also had a problem with the Hotel Tonight app a few weeks ago. The booking was made and confirmed, however when my friends turned up at hotel they weren’t on hotel system but fortunately there was still rooms available. The big problem was in the morning when the hotel then refused to accept the HfP discount code and (for some reason) wanted to blame it all on Booking.com. It took over an hour to get it sorted, with no help from hotel, but Hotel Tonight staff eventually resolved it, they too were confused as to what had gone wrong.

  Brief update on the above..i emailed open tonight to inform of the situation..They responded suggesting that holiday inn said did not turn up and so was a no show! They asked for further information including the person name who was talking to at holiday inn..Cannot remember the name, even more frustrating to say the least! Will you keep you updated

The few examples that I have tried seem to produce mostly Holiday Inns. Is this normal?

  No – but they do seem to have a deal with IHG which means that a lot of their properties are on the list.

I had a similar problem last week with it. I tried to book a hotel in Belgium but on the booking page after tracing the bed symbol it said sold out. Ended up having to book through Hotels.com for the same money, funnily enough.

  It didn’t go by email, that’s why! As all the email subscribers were going to get the competition emailed to them whether they wanted it or not, I didn’t think they would necessarily appreciate the teaser.
  
  I did it to encourage some of the weekend readers, who don’t necessarily read the site during the week as they don’t sit behind a desk all day, to pop over at some point.

These guys are advertising now in tube carriages, along the lines of: if you are having a good time on a night out, and want to stay for the “last dance” but are afraid of missing the last train, it’s simple – just book a hoteltonight room and stay the night!

Sounds great if the hotels’ systems can cope with such spontaneous third-party bookings! Hopefully the example above at Stansted (probably HIE?) is a one-off exception.
