I wrote a couple of pieces about LAN recently, here and here, the oneworld airline based in Chile. LAN has a sister airline, TAM, based in Brazil.
Until June 28th, TAM is offering some exceptional business class fares to South America. These are for departures from Frankfurt.
How cheap? Well, you are looking at £875 (€1,235) for a return flight to Rio de Janeiro in business class.
This would earn you 400 British Airways tier points for a return trip – you need to change planes in Sao Paulo – and over 16,000 Avios points.
Other destinations in the region are also available.
EDIT: As per the comments below, there are also special deals from Madrid at roughly £1,000 return. See here for details.
I recommend booking via LAN Germany because the website using a handy grid system. This shows you, plus and minus three days from the dates you enter, which flights have this low price.
You need to book by June 28th and you must take your outbound flight between August 5th and August 20th.
Unfortunately, availability has dropped very sharply over the last 24 hours. There are still some days where you can get the fare but you will need to be flexible.
I don’t know anything at all about TAM’s Boeing 777 business class seating. It appears to be an angled lie-flat seat – see the image above. Normally I would try to avoid such seats as they are uncomfortable when sleeping but, when you are talking £875 return, I think I could live with it …..
