£875 business class (and Avios and tier-point earning) August flights to South America

I wrote a couple of pieces about LAN recently, here and here, the oneworld airline based in Chile.  LAN has a sister airline, TAM, based in Brazil.

Until June 28th, TAM is offering some exceptional business class fares to South America.  These are for departures from Frankfurt.

How cheap?  Well, you are looking at £875 (€1,235) for a return flight to Rio de Janeiro in business class.

This would earn you 400 British Airways tier points for a return trip – you need to change planes in Sao Paulo – and over 16,000 Avios points.

TAM business class

Other destinations in the region are also available.

EDIT: As per the comments below, there are also special deals from Madrid at roughly £1,000 return.  See here for details.

I recommend booking via LAN Germany because the website using a handy grid system.  This shows you, plus and minus three days from the dates you enter, which flights have this low price.

You need to book by June 28th and you must take your outbound flight between August 5th and August 20th.

Unfortunately, availability has dropped very sharply over the last 24 hours.  There are still some days where you can get the fare but you will need to be flexible.

I don’t know anything at all about TAM’s Boeing 777 business class seating.  It appears to be an angled lie-flat seat – see the image above.  Normally I would try to avoid such seats as they are uncomfortable when sleeping but, when you are talking £875 return, I think I could live with it …..

How about giving credit to Flyertalk MR forum where you took this deal from?

    • Rob says:

I didn’t get it from there. A HFP reader emailed me with it – whether he got it from FT or was emailed it by LATAM I don’t know.

The fare is also heavily advertised on the LAN site so it is not as if it is a mistake fare which was discovered by an FT reader and posted there (I don’t cover mistake fares anyway as they are usually dead by the time the next mornings articles go out).

The majority of stuff on HFP is actually sent in by readers these days!

Personally it doesn’t matter to me where you get it from. You do the hard work or putting all the information in one place which is easy to read. That’s gets my daily 5 mins. Keep up the great work.

    • Nathan says:

      Milestalker, seriously?!

  • ChasingMiles says:

Very rare that the author actually gives credit and the majority of information communicated on this blog comes from other resources, LoyaltyLobby, FT etc. Makes it much easier for us if HfP scours the net for all deals and then brings it all together to share here!!

  • Phillip says:

The product is your typical angled seat, much like the old QR A330 seat. I found it perfectly comfortable and as Rob says, for the price, it’s tough to beat. I had a mixed experience in terms of service from TAM; overall they are fine, but I found most crew paid more attention to natives and not so much to foreign travellers!

  • John G says:

If anyone is familiar with the previous generation Asiana seat, that is exactly what you get on TAM. Nothing particularly wrong with it and especially not for the price.

  • R says:

I’ve done it three times and unless someone is already in Frankfurt, wouldn’t bother. The angled seat wasn’t great, nor was the service. J was full on each of those flights – if I recall correctly I read on ft that it’s relatively easy for pax from their own ff program to upgrade themselves to J.

    Thank you!
