How to earn Avios via Clubcard by taking gas and electricity from E.ON

E.ON is one of the lesser known Tesco Clubcard partners. This is because, since the end of 2013, you do NOT earn Tesco Clubcard points directly from them.

E.ON has its own rewards scheme – E.ON Rewards – and it is those points which can be converted into Tesco Clubcard.

The other reason it is low key is that E.ON Rewards is an ‘opt in’ scheme. If you don’t sign up, you don’t earn any points, even though E.ON is supplying your fuel.

E.ON Rewards is simplicity itself. You can find an introduction to the scheme here.

You earn a capped 1,500 E.ON Rewards points per year for being on an eligible electricity or dual fuel tariff

Points accrue daily and are awarded monthly

You can either transfer these to Tesco Clubcard (1:1, no minimum) or for Bonusbond high street shopping vouchers (500 = £5 voucher)

Points expire after two years if not redeemed

Points do NOT transfer automatically. You need to go onto the E.ON Rewards website to move them across.

As you can see, E.ON appears to be quietly hoping that many customers either fail to opt-in to the scheme or, if they do, forget about it and let their points expire!

1,500 Clubcard points per year is worth 3,600 Avios or 3,750 Virgin Flying Club miles. Given the size of the most gas and electricity bills, however, this is a drop in the ocean. Your first priority should be to find the cheapest supplier and only then, if it is E.ON, take the points into account.

I switched recently due to the fact the eon deal was second cheapest in the market. A few pence different between the cheapest so 1500 extra CC points better off and saving moneyon my old tariff.

      But I think my modest 3 switches a year strategy combined with fairly minimal rinsing will save me c.£500 per annum on a £1200 energy bill

Surprised more people don’t get on board. Free, almost unlimited, Avios usually a tad more attractive.

Shrewdly, I know that when Raffles does his write-up, this will be red hot.

Must be some indication of which readers, read what (etc).

Planning on buying 20 P.Cs on Thursday – some talk online about Tesco till staff having been briefed to accept cash only for these – which seems an odd directive – we shall see.

Hi – how can I use pay.com cards. I was a fan of the £50 visa cards (with a £4) fee and got used to buying them and paying direct into NS +I can I do the same with pay.com cards ?

  No. AFAIK all finance routes are closed. If you search for my old 3V articles you will see a list of utility companies who take them, plus Sky, Vodafone etc.

Stacks of pay.com cards round us. I started using them last week as Sky TV a/c needed topping up.

Same password & user ID as 3Vs, worked fine.

Next up will be funding the EDF a/c now that I’ve kicked out OVO & got my refund of a/c balance.
