Most Head for Points readers will already have an avios.com account to sit alongside their British Airways Executive Club account.

There are various reasons for doing this. It lets you collect via more partners (eg the Lloyd Avios Rewards credit cards, e-Rewards) and it lets you redeem differently. As well as having different airline partners (Aurigny, Monarch, Air Malta), you can also redeem for sporting events and other non-travel bits and pieces.

150 free Avios

If you or anyone in your BA Household Account does not have an avios.com account, now is a decent time to open one.

I opened one for my father-in-law last week. Yesterday, he got an email offering 150 free Avios points for completing a very short survey on his travel preferences.

When you sign up for avios.com, don’t complete any of the questions about how often you travel or where you go. This makes it more likely that you will be offered a similar 150 Avios points for completing your data.

OT but related to Avios

I just hit the Welcome Bonus today on the BA Amex Premium Plus card. Sadly, the monthly sweep of avios to BA happened last week. Next sweep is not due until 23rd April.

Is it possible to tranfer these MR points to BA immediately?

  If you’ve got the BAPP then you’re directly earning Avios, not MR points. With MR points you transfer whenever you want and they go across within a day or so (sometimes sooner), but with Avios earned on the BA Amex cards you’re stuck with the monthly sweep.

Related to Avios, I have just spotted that on their e shopping there are double avios for shopping at a number of places including John Lewis – Sadly this finishes tomorrow 31st March, but gives a decent 4 avios per pound. This is of course in addition to what you get from your cards. If I’m not needing to reach a spending target, I tend to use my Santander 123 credit card which gives 2% cash back at department stores – so better than the JL card which is 1% of membership points. I only use my JL card in Waitrose now!
Since I discovered that you can collect JL online orders from any waitrose, including waitrose locals and usually the next day, this has become an easy way to get extra avios so long as the purchases are not too heavy or large!

Me gustaria preguntarle sobre el tema de la inscripcion : si es obligatorio para obtener los 150 avios,estar inscrito en Cuenta Familiar BA o no es obligatorio estar inscrito con anterioridad en una Cuenta Familiar BA

For anyone signing up for a Lloyds Avios reward Amex/MasterCard account: I opened an account with Avios.com in advance of my arrival of Loyds Avios rewards credit cards. 6 weeks later, and after I’d spent £900 using my new Lloyds c/c I still had an empty Avios.com account. When I queried this with Lloyds they told me that a had 2 Avios accounts, because they automatically open an Avios.com account for you in which to deposit your Avios! I was able to keep the account I already had, and they just amalgamated the two accounts. Instantly, upon signing out then back in again I had the missing points.
So a) no need to open an Avios.com account when applying for Lloyds c/c , and b) if you already have an Avios.com account, ask Lloyds to amalgamate the two.

  Sadly this is a recurrent ‘feature’ of Avios.com! I had the same thing happen with the (meagre number) of Avios I collected from Shell – thankfully as you say they’re pretty used to merging accounts!
