IHG – owner of Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc – has brought back the 48-hour Flash Sale that it originally ran earlier in November. Booking is now open.

Over 600 hotels in Europe are taking part.  The end date is the same as last time – you must complete your stay by February 14th.

IHG sale

The list of participating hotels is priced from £29 to £169.  It went up on the site yesterday, even though you couldn’t actually book, and seems identical to the list from the first two flash sales.

The UK £29 list comprises only Holiday Inn Express hotels. The first semi-decent London hotel I know personally is Holiday Inn Kensington Forum at £49 – this is a pretty good deal as, whilst in need of refurbishment, it is outside Gloucester Road tube station (Piccadilly, Circle, District) and 5 minutes walk from the South Kensington museums.

Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury and Holiday Inn London Regents Park, both £49 last time, also have decent reputations but I have never been inside either. At this price you can’t really go wrong.

On the other hand the Holiday Inn Stratford I used to get for £20 in the sale is £89 – close to its normal price in the dead season. The Holiday Inn Wembley is not worth £89 given that it is only 10,000 IHG points to redeem.

If you want a luxury break, the £169 level looks interesting.  The InterContinental London Park Lane is still there as is InterContinental Paris Le Grand – a Valentine break may be possible.

The sale runs until midnight on Saturday 17th so you have just a few hours to book.

These rooms are not explicitly blocked from earning IHG Rewards Club points and stay credit, or counting for Set Your Sights. If your night costs less than 70% of the Best Flexible Rate for that night, your points are at risk though. This is the threshold that hotels are meant to use when deciding whether to give points although some properties ignore it.

Note that you must be an IHG Rewards Club member to book.  You can sign up for free online so this will not be a major problem for anyone!

As always, if the sale has a property in a place you need to be, you’ve got a bargain. I recommend you click here, take a look and decide for yourself.

Tried Exeter on Jan 27th cheapest is over £70!

  • Felix says:

    Hi All,

Great find: just booked a few business trips in HI Express + a Valentine’s stay at the InteContinental Park Lane for the wife and I all at significantly reduced rates 🙂

One question: for the Set Your Sights programme one of the targets is to download and install the app. I have or will do all the other targets in time but have already downloaded and installed the app as part of the previous targets programme last month which i didn’t quite make… does anyone know if it is enough to simply delete and re-download the app? If so, will i lose all my booking history and preferred hotels?

    • Kai says:

I installed it for Into the Nights and got the same task for Set Your Sights. I didn’t do anything (reinstallation etc.) and the task has become “completed” today.

  • Globetrotter7 says:

Just booked my very first mattress run (yahoo!!!!) to help trigger 3 of my 5 Set Your Sights offers… £49 at HIE Wandsworth which is just a stone’s throw from me. I’m strangely feeling quite excited. About it. I may not even sleep there lol

  • markb says:

I download the app on the missus account when the ITN promotion was announced and made the first booking for this weekend a week ago, nothing showing as activity on the ITN website, should I be concerned ?

    • Rob says:

No, it takes ages to track stuff

      • Twobfair says:

I assume this also goes for the “search” target under Set Your Sights? I am being offered 500 points for clicking on a search link but imagine it can take a while to track?

  • Twobfair says:

Do any of the old promo codes work for additional points? Or have IHG pulled these?

    • Alan says:

There are still some of those codes floating about, but I think most of us now avoid using ones we haven’t been directly targeted for ourselves since IHG have gone a bit account closure happy. Ironic that only a year or so ago an interview with their Chief Exec was saying how they liked savvy travelers such as those that made use of these codes! I’ve got a fairly reasonable IHG balance now so don’t want to risk it.

    • Rob says:

They still work – one of my family accounts even got one with their new card recently. Too risky for me to openly promote them now but the link to the old list is on the Hotel Promos page.

    • Fenny says:

I’ve used several in the last couple of months. So far, I’ve bagged about 3,000 extra points for just a couple of stays. One is still active, so should give me an extra 2000 points for the stays I’ve just booked.

  • James67 says:

Thanks, this hotel has always been busy when I was there and probably explains rates.vthanks to other contributors for their help too. Went for Thistle via sale and amex so working out at £34/night.

  • Daz says:

I’m currently at the IC Madrid for the weekend with the family. We’ve got a lovely room, club lounge access and breakfast from the last Flash sale in Nov 14 that cost 179.00 euros a night. Really nice, recommended by Daz.

  • Danksy says:

2 nights at a holiday inn express near to me £29 each night
1 night at a holiday inn near me for £39 for the night

£97 spent and 50,000 points plus 1300 points for booking and whatever points (4 x 97?) for booking on the IHG rewards card!!!

Kerching, these are being cashed out on rewards in Hawaii !!!!
