Final IHG Rewards Club ‘flash sale’ now live for 48 hours – rooms from £29

IHG – owner of Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc – has brought back the 48-hour Flash Sale that it originally ran earlier in November. Booking is now open.

Over 600 hotels in Europe are taking part. The end date is the same as last time – you must complete your stay by February 14th.

The list of participating hotels is priced from £29 to £169. It went up on the site yesterday, even though you couldn’t actually book, and seems identical to the list from the first two flash sales.

The UK £29 list comprises only Holiday Inn Express hotels. The first semi-decent London hotel I know personally is Holiday Inn Kensington Forum at £49 – this is a pretty good deal as, whilst in need of refurbishment, it is outside Gloucester Road tube station (Piccadilly, Circle, District) and 5 minutes walk from the South Kensington museums.

Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury and Holiday Inn London Regents Park, both £49 last time, also have decent reputations but I have never been inside either. At this price you can’t really go wrong.

On the other hand the Holiday Inn Stratford I used to get for £20 in the sale is £89 – close to its normal price in the dead season. The Holiday Inn Wembley is not worth £89 given that it is only 10,000 IHG points to redeem.

If you want a luxury break, the £169 level looks interesting. The InterContinental London Park Lane is still there as is InterContinental Paris Le Grand – a Valentine break may be possible.

The sale runs until midnight on Saturday 17th so you have just a few hours to book.

These rooms are not explicitly blocked from earning IHG Rewards Club points and stay credit, or counting for Set Your Sights. If your night costs less than 70% of the Best Flexible Rate for that night, your points are at risk though. This is the threshold that hotels are meant to use when deciding whether to give points although some properties ignore it.

Note that you must be an IHG Rewards Club member to book. You can sign up for free online so this will not be a major problem for anyone!

This seems to become a “set your Sights” asking thread 😉

Anyway, one from me.
One of my tasks is
“Stay 3 nights get 5000 points”
Does anyone know, if this must be consecutive nights? Or can it be 2 nights here and in a few weeks another 1 night there?

Other than that we are on our way to 100’000 points over 2 accounts plus 3x 60’000 for the Credit Card. San Francisco next year sorted.

  Wish my tasks were quite as easy.
  Need 2 x Holiday Inn stays and 2 x “book through the app”. Easy enough for around £80 and 24,000 bonus points.
  Then need another 4 nights, so £116 minimum there if I use the flash sale rates – was really planning on staying at more Hiltons but can be flexible.
  Also have to spend $39 on food and drink. Going to be in the US in March / April so that should be do-able for a total of 51,000 points.

      Mine changed straight away too, If you want to chase the points (as they did not appear on my first statement) try Twitter (Barclaycard that is as IHG did not respond!) Someone called me back after looking into it which was helpful, though I’m still waiting for the points.

      Several people who post on here have had the same answer (detail on the last IHG thread) The social media team after posting on Twitter called me and gave me the info about 6 weeks, but apparently its not 6 weeks from the first statement date but from the date your first payment is due!

        Wow, that’s really long! You could always pop a formal complaint in via online messaging – they take so long to reply you’ll likely end up with some compensation from them ;))

        I will try! For info – If anyone has a target in set your sights to redeem some points on anything (mine gives 1000 points) there is an e-magazine that can be purchased for 6 points!

If anyone wants to actually stay somewhere for a weekend break near London. The Crowne Plaza Five Lakes seems a good deal at £49. Excellent breakfast (free for Golds and Plats) and a very good Brasserie with good kids options!

Anyone got any good points/cash redemptions as I need 1 night using cash and points to qualify, can’t be at a HI or HIE so ideally a cheap CP or one of the other brands IHG have (probs not an IC as thats still likely to be lots of monies)

  Why can’t it be at a HI or HIE? I don’t believe points and cash nights count as qualifying nights so you are going to do a paid night at a CP or other brands if that is what your task requires.

I wonder if everyone else knows this, but if in the future a similar sale (this is the first time I actually took advantage of IHG Flash Sale) is launched, UK residents may wish to consider that midnight is “midnight local time” at the destination, not a member’s country of residence (in my case and I’d assume the majority of cases for HFP members, UK).

I decided on a last minute weekend break in Spain earlier in the day and booked one hotel in Barcelona and benefited from the discounted price.

When I later decided which hotel in Madrid to stay at and with just over 20 minutes remaining on the timer to midnight, I tried to book the hotel in Madrid and the rates were no longer available!

I asked to speak to a reservation support agent online, the guy claimed “midnight local time of the property”.

Needless to say….I didn’t see anything on the sale’s page (with the URL clearly for gb in my case) stating this. If it were me launching a similar sale, I’d have made sure this was clearly stated on the sale’s page (less than a line of text), but then again this is IHG and with so many IT issues I have personally experienced in the past year with promotions, I probably shouldn’t expect so much

If my husband books a night via his IHG a/c will the night still go towards his Set your Sights offer if he isn’t actually at check in when only I arrive with the kids? He has an easy target where as mine is harder to reach, but I need a couple of stays booking for myself and the kids.

  Yes, its fine. He books the room for all of you, puts your down as ‘Additional Guest’ when booking and you’re fine.
