Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

20% off iTunes gift cards at Tesco – plus 360 Avios if you spend £50

Tesco is running another promotion on iTunes gift cards for the next week or so, until January 11th.

Unlike some previous versions of this promotion, all denominations – £15, £25 and £50 – are included.

This combines very nicely with the ‘150 bonus Clubcard points for spending £50 on gift cards’ promotion.

For this promotion – and this is not always the case with Tesco – they base the bonus points on the post-discount price.

If you buy 2 x £25 iTunes gift cards you will need to throw in a random £10 gift card for Starbucks or anyone apart from Tesco itself to get your post-discount total spend to £50. This will trigger the bonus which is worth 360 Avios points or 375 Virgin Flying Club miles.

This offer is also available online at the Tesco Gift Card Store.  You will still receive your 150 Clubcard points per £50 if you buy online.  There is a small postage charge.

I tried getting some iTunes gift cards before Christmas with the 100 extra points vouchers and it turns out the small print of the 150 clubcard points offer for spending £50 excludes iTunes gift cards. Didn’t realise until they got scanned at the till and rather than them going through as a ‘gift card’ they’re programmed differently so come up as iTunes, meaning no bonus points on them…

    • Jason says:

Never had a problem getting the 150 points. Always buy them with a few shopping items.

      • Raffles says:

Snap! Indeed, if you look at the linked blog Kevin got his points ok.

      • Kevin @ Economy Class and Beyond says:

I’ve never had a problem. Worse comes to worse, customer services will set things straight.

I normally do a £50 voucher (or variants enough to get to the £50 point, then use a Starbucks card) – tends to trigger it ok.

    • Pol says:

This happened to me and I queried it as it didn’t mention iTunes cards being excluded on the voucher. They added the extra points manually.

    • Fenny says:

I always get the 150 points on itunes cards. I only every buy the cards when they are discounted and use them on the Adorable Nieces. I wouldn’t buy them if I didn’t get the points.

      • Dev says:

I use Apple TV and take full advantage of the discounts. I regularly load up my account. The way I look at is that Woth Netflix and Now TV, it means I’m getting a 5th of the year free.

        • Fenny says:

Totally OT, but I use Amazon Prime TV for 80% of my watching (don’t have a TV licence due to the amount of junk on broadcast channels) and Now TV when Game of Thrones is on. Occasionally topping it all off with Blinkbox, especially to purchase box sets with extra points attached. Apart from that, a Cineworld Unlimited card isn’t much more than a TV licence and means I can see the latest films as they come out.

  • Jenni says:

Sorry OT, but does anyone know if Tesco sell M&S gift cards? I would imagine not as they’re a competitor… Any ideas on maximising Amex MR points / air miles on M&S spend? Or is the BAPP my best bet?

  • Jon says:

This 20% offer was on from the end of Dec, so you could have used your 100 points voucher on top of the discount!

  • Rob says:

Does this mean you can use 3V bought from Tesco to buy Sainsburys vouchers online at ‘high street vouchers’? this seems brilliant if you can?

  • What's the Point says:

Assuming you can find any 3Vs that is!

  • needroos says:

Does anyone have any experience using Itunes gift card credit to top up Skype accounts through in app payments?

  • Metatone says:

How do you connect your gift card purchase to your club card number?
It makes me register separately for the Tesco gift card store.
